Coughlin: Running for Governor
- Date: Jan 13,2009

Not a lot of additional information right now, but State Senator Kevin Coughlin announced this afternoon he plans to run for governor. I first saw it here at Ohio.com.
Looks like John Kasich, should he decide to run, will not have a clear primary field.
Update: State Senator Coughlin is exploring with the intention of running for governor. The state party has been informed of the organizing for a 2010 governor campaign and that is what is going on as of now. Just wanted to clarify that.

Is this put up or shut up for Kasich??
Kasich is a proven budget-cutter, a conservative. Kevin isn't even smart enough to try to mend bridges with AA.
Not true, Ron.
Kevin is a very talented, practical and reliable elected official, who has done an excellent job serving the people of Ohio as State Senator. If you remember, Coughlin authored the bill that created Ohio's Amber Alert System and his initiatives have cracked down on sexual predators.
As for your remark that "Kevin isn't even smart enough to try to mend bridges with AA," I must say that Senator Coughlin only had the best intentions. He had the moral fiber and the courage to take on corrupt leadership within Summit County's Republican Party, in an effort to better serve the GOP and the people of Ohio.

Summit County Republicans Throw Themselves A Pity Party
On the eve of Barack Obama's inauguration, a splinter faction of the Summit County Republican Party met in a small conference room in Akron's Four Points Sheraton to discuss plans for the future. These were members of the self-titled "New Republicans" of Summit County, the upper-class junta that tried to unseat Alex Arshinkoff in an unsuccessful coup last year.
It was a somber event, though they tried to spin their increasing irrelevance as best they could. One man stood up to explain how Obama's victory was actually a failure, since he outspent McCain, yet only won by a "small margin." The only real issue discussed was how they needed to utilize e-mail and Facebook in upcoming elections, a point somewhat lost on the mostly geriatric crowd.
The meeting was much like the Festivus tradition of "the airing of grievances," as Arshinkoff's supporters called for unity while the "New Republicans" demanded inclusion. Don Varian, a loyalist to state senator and gubernatorial candidate Kevin Coughlin, got himself in a tizzy at one point, claiming Summit County's GOP was ruled by a "clique" which he had never been asked to join, so he wouldn't let them join his club either! So there.
Finally, Coughlin stepped up. With Coughlin, a "family-values" Ÿber-conservative, you never know what you're going to get. Sometimes he'll demand green license plates for sex offenders. Sometimes he'll talk about death certificates for aborted fetuses. Sometimes, as he did with Scene, he will tell you how Arshinkoff once made a pass at him at a Republican event. But on Monday, Coughlin blamed the media. Apparently, journalists never gave local Republicans a chance because we were too busy fawning over Obama and praising Ted Strickland.
You're right, Senator. Maybe it is time for us to pay a little more attention to you. – James Renner
Coughlin does not know what "moral fiber" is…..
It's my understanding the comment from Renner at the event was priceless. I hope it makes it's way soon on the web.
I was at the meeting and when Renner made his statement you could hear a pin drop in the room!!! I'm sure the recording will find it's way to You Tube!

Who the hell cares what some tabloid "reporter" says? I was there too. The guy's question made no sense and was met with silence. Then the meeting went on as if nothing happened.
If Alex and his little band of gays and unemployable losers really think they are a threat to Kevin Coughlin, I want what they are smoking.
Kasich, if he indeed does run, has already defeated the Senator.
Colton,
Funny. I remember another candidate about a year ago who created an air of inevitability around her. Who was that? Oh yes, Hillary!
Has anyone seen the police report yet from yesterday?

HAHAHAHAHAHA, He came in last out of six applicants for a position in the fall, and he thought he was going to escape out of State early!!!!
I'm posting this here primarily because this thread seems to have the most recent activity.
Why is it that no one seems interested in the issues regarding family rights and child [so-called] "protective" services? the take kids that don't need to be taken and billions of our tax dollars each year are poured into their "care", adjudacation, etc. all the while, children are abused, neglected, molested and even killed in foster "care" at a rate much higher than in their natural homes. we don't hear the majority of it on the news [maybe once or twice every 8-10 years] and our politicians [who claim to care about our kids] never respond to questions regarding these issues. WHY does no one give a damn about what our own government agencies and judicial system is doing to our children and families with our own hard-earned tax dollars?
anyone who is interested and does give a damn, please feel free to email me at: ohiofamilyrights@ymail.com we as a state need to grow awareness and push for some serious change for the sakes of our precious children.
thanx & God bless,

Exclusive: Coughlin appears to be using taxpayer offices to conduct political activity
Submitted by modernesquire on Wed, 02/04/2009 – 2:34pm.
CowTownGirl confirmed what I had initially suspected, but quickly dismissed (because who would be dumb enough to film a campaign announcement in their official, taxpayer provided government office?): State Senator Kevin Coughlin filmed his Gubernatorial candidancy announcement in his official State Senate office. I dismissed it because I wasn't sure if any State Senate office had a fireplace, but the woodworking and appearance of the office looks strikingly similar to that of the offices in the State Senate at Capitol Square.
On top of that, Coughlin's campaign website which states is paid for by Coughlin for Ohio, his Gubernatorial campaign organization, lists his State Senate phone number and address for contact information. Coughlin also calls the website his "online" district office, but it also features his web post announcing his Gubernatorial candidacy.
So, I called Coughlin's State Senate office and asked if they knew where his announcement was filmed. Coughlin's aide said that although the aide had not seen the announcement clip yet (since it cannot be viewed on State computers and the campaign must be separate from the official office) the aide was "pretty sure" it was filmed at the Statehouse.
So to recap, within twenty-four hours of announcing his candidacy, GOP Gubernatorial candidate Kevin Coughlin has been revealed trying to promote a completely scripted and edited announcement speech as "unscripted." He's violated Ohio's campaign finance laws by using taxpayer-provided officespace for his personal political purposes. And he's posted that video on a website that is paid by his campaign but is presented as being part of his official office, including listing his state office phone number as "contact" information for him on his gubernatorial campaign website.
Coughlin's campaign launch isn't going so well.
BTW, when will any newspaper, radio station, or television station in Ohio report on this?
The Strickland liberal crowd in Columbus is crowing about nothing. The Statehouse is used all the time for political filming – that's been well established. Knock yourselves out.
1. (If registered Republican) As you may know there will be an election for Governor in Ohio in 2010. Thinking about the Republican primary for Governor, if the 2010 Republican primary for governor were being held today and the candidates were John Kasich, Mike DeWine and Kevin Coughlin, for whom would you vote?
Rep
Kasich 22%
DeWine 37
Coughlin 3
Sorry Way to go, but you're Alex-like hatred of Coughlin had you convinced that everything is bad news for Kevin.
Coughlin knows he's starting from scratch on money and statewide name id. Big deal. I love it when people try to run down candidates and the expectations. Those candidates tend end up winning. Ask Hillary.
Coughlin's last post referencing an alex-like hatred shows how much he truly has his head in the sand. It's funny watching him compare himself to Obama.
So many people are enjoying this last desperate grasp for attention.
Whole. New. Ohio.
Worst. Campaign. Ever. Idiot.
Give Coughlin the attention he deserves. NONE.
Look for Todd Kritzwiser in 2010. Todd4Ohio.com
By the way has anyone ever read the scene magazine story on Alex Arshinkoff picking up a young guy asking him him if he was gay or bi? It is really interesting that people slam Coughlin for an alleged affair he never had with a woman but no one is even concerned about a Chairman spouting family values while shopping for sex with a male and there is a police report to boot.
