New York Calamity

  • Author: Ben Keeler

Story: Caroline Kennedy, the daughter of an American political dynasty, has decided to pursue the United States Senate seat being vacated by Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York, a person told of her decision said on Monday.

How pissed off would be if you were serving in the U.S. House from New York and you wanted to be a senator? You wait around and wait around and hope the chance comes your way at some point – knowing even then it would be a dogfight for the nomination. Then in 2000, it did. Moynihan decided to retire. A lot of Democrats in New York were waiting that one out, but unfortunately for them some First Lady came in and decided to move there because she wanted it.

Well, that seat is now open again……and the same people kept their mouth shut and stepped aside the first time…….and now someone with no history of holding elected office wants to replace HRC. Sounds like the criticism the left leveled at Sarah Palin, minus the whole she was a governor part. One would have to think New York Governor David Paterson will give Kennedy a long look. I don't think all of the contenders (former Rep. Nita Lowey, Reps. Steve Israel, Greg Meeks, Nydia Velasquez, Brian Higgins just to name a few) will keep quiet this time.

(Note: "Rep." is short for "representative" not "Republican." The media was fond of only referring to Gary Condit as "Rep. Gary Condit" back in 2001 to try and confuse people into thinking he was not a Democrat.)

For Republicans, it is fun to watch, but that is about as close as we will get to ever winning this seat. Giuliani would have an outside chance to win it, but he would never run again (after dropping out in 2000). Peter King would have a glimmer of hope, but not much.

For the latest on Coleman – Franken in Minnesota, this post by Powerline has some good information. It is going to be close, and one side is not going to be happy with the end result.

Was it a calamity when the zero-experienced Terminator was gimmicked in as governor of California?

Also….Franken is going to win. Numerous court cases to follow.

Don't you just love the ZERO brains mindset Ben? Also talk about stealing elections….

  3. Ben Keeler December 16th, 2008 at 1:30 pm

No, it wasnt really the same at all because Arnold won, he wasnt appointed.

  4. Alex H December 16th, 2008 at 2:48 pm

There will be court cases in Minnesota no matter who is said to have won.

True that, Ben….Arnie was elected…but what brought about that opportunity?

The "special" recall election was sold on some obscure allegation that Davis hid California's deficit situation.

How's that deficit problem working out now?

Oh…and….I would think that conservatives would shy away from talk of "stealing elections", but then that's why they're conservatives, I guess.

Oh I guess you want to argue about Florida 2000 now.

Anyways in the post, I dont say that she shouldnt be Senator. I am saying that House people in NY are going to be pissed that this will be twice now that they have been passed over.

Kennedy appointment absurd. Should pick someone from western NY (buffalo mayor…forget his name).

Recount is on my last nerve. Think Franken will win, but care way less than I did a month ago. Franken seems to be a slight favorite.

It always amuses me when the Democratic party is supposed to not be like the Republicans and we are supposed to be about the regular person and then we see time and time again that one thing both parties have in common is a focus on family name, money and power. The never ending, it's not what you know but who you know.

Things will never really change until the people have a voice and a vote based on real life experiences as opposed to those who don't earn but are given political appointments.

I feel the same about the recount. I want Coleman to win, but its like whatever now.

I guess the printing presses in the back of the frankfurter HQ are working overtime right now, Speaking of stealing elections how about 1960 part 2 but in 2008? where did all those millions come from overseas?

If you're comparing Caroline to Sarah ..most people would probably go with the the one who reads[ or at least the one who is sharp enough to make up what she reads].

Jeb Bush is saying "Is it 2012 yet? My turn! My turn!"

    Plenty of Bushes left …

  13. Ben Keeler December 17th, 2008 at 2:41 pm

Well, except he would probably run for it and not be appointed. Like he ran for FL Gov in 1994 (lost), 1998 (won), 2002 (won, despite Terry "Jeb is Gone" McAuliffe.)

Other than that, the comparison is pretty valid.

She headed Obama's VP search, more political experience than Al Franken.

I think it is going to get ugly if C. Kennedy pursues her assumed entitlement and I hope she does. It is time we debate the assumed entitlement of our politica elite and their "right" to pass along their spoils to their family.

I'm just wondering if she can handle her liquor the way the Kennedy boys do. And if that includes pulling her drawers down at parties and raping drunk women on the beach.

You take the good with the bad, I guess.
