Not to pile on Sarah Palin, but…

Watch the right side of the video. Stay with it until about 1:10.

I really don't know what to say other than kudos to the camera man for framing the shot of Palin, the turkey wrangler, and the cone of death. It is great use of the rule of thirds.

Since the election I've talked a lot about Sarah Palin with friends on both sides of the aisle. The general consensus is she wasn't given a chance to succeed because the McCain campaign did such a bad job of handling her. Her selection so late in the summer that she has little time to prepare for the national spotlight, which I would argue she was never going to be ready for anyway. What has been exceptionally revealing is the McCain campaign and Fox News (a la Campaign Carl) assault on Palin post election. The stuff about her clothes and her general intelligence came from conservative sources. It showed how undisciplined and amateur the McCain campaign really was. I feel bad for the fact that this woman put her neck our for John McCain and she got trashed because they did such a bad job with her. Anyway, I hope she rebounds and gets the Republican Presidential Nomination. Palin 2012!

    Kyle,

Are you serious? Do you think food magically appears in the grocery store? Animals are slaughtered and then we eat them. That's how it works. The whole idea of presidential or governors pardons for turkeys is just stupid. Only thing dumber is lefties that are surprised to find out the ones that don't get pardons become supper.

I cannot believe that the cameraman honed in on the Turkeys getting their necks cut and the last shakes of the bird. Do you think Kilroy in the background could have stopped what he was doing to let the interview finish first?
Yes kyle it will be an interesting 2012 for sure but who the heck knows, she may not be running for prez then could be doing something else.
Have a good Thankgiving Kyle and the same to Ben too!

After what many consider to be an unwise choice for VP, I would hope that both parties would be a bit gunshy about selecting an eye-candy, teleprompter reader to be a heartbeat away from the presidency.

The choice of Sarah Palin illustrates how far our pop-culture, image driven society has taken us. As I posted back in September, the choice of Paris Hilton as McCain's running mate wouldn't have been all that much different from the Palin choice.

The turkey killing clip reminded me of the Hilton/Richie teevee series.

    "Reverend",

I assume you are unaware how ridiculous it is for you to make a comment about "eye-candy, teleprompter reader" a heartbeat away being as you just rooted for the election of one for the presidency itself.

When this web site is no longer up I will surly miss both Ben and Kyle and their civil commentary. With that the two best things I will love no longer seeing is (1) Alex changing his name all the time and leaving his stupid comments and (2) the Alleged priest leaving his arrogant, idiotic, stupid, ill-informed drivel for all people to scratch their heads in wonderment of.

to all of us that had Turkey for Thanksgiving maybe this was a good reality check.
    Amen to Anon's above comment.

This IS piling on. The whole story of what happened that day isn't told here. Nor has it been told on the rest of the bloggisphere or on the TV or the radio. She actually had pardoned a turkey as do many leaders including the president. She was then interviewed while she was there. Was she aware of where she was standing and what was behind her? Was she set up by the interviewer and the videographer, just to acquire some more negative news about her? Wow, our press is so irreputable. They have all gone National Enquirer or World News. It is disgusting how there is no one that we can believe.

  8. mary November 28th, 2008 at 11:24 am

Oh come on — piling on? She brags about shooting and field dressing a moose. Pardoning a turkey was a political maneuver for much of the lower 48. If she were politically smart she never would have set foot in the slaughter house, never would have been interviewed there, and would keep all future moose hunting expeditions a secret. She was born a politician.

I notice the Palin stuff started up again as soon as The One's oddly directionless cabinet choices came to light.

Don't despair, lefties–be thankful he's just another run of the mill lost-his-way-and-forsaked-his-beliefs politician. It could have been worse.

"…the Alleged priest leaving his arrogant, idiotic, stupid, ill-informed drivel for all people to scratch their heads in wonderment of."

67% of Americans now think Obama will do a good job. My election predictions the morning of November 4th were virtually perfect….and not one conservative commenter here has ever factually proven me to be incorrect on the facts.

"all people" is a prime example of "idiotic, stupid, ill-informed drivel"…..coming from the keyboards of conservatives completely out of touch with American reality.

But hey, I am arrogant, so you didn't get it 100% wrong.

I wish the Palin's well. Those who continue to blindly and ignorantly support her as a premier GOP politician? Not so much.

  11. averagejoe5 November 28th, 2008 at 7:25 pm

Get a grip. First, a lot of politicians pardon turkeys. It is done by presidents traditionally. It is a photo opportunity, not a political ploy. Will it be a political ploy when the chosen one does it next year?

Also 87,000,000 hunting permits were issued last year in the US. That's alot of field dressing, I don't see a problem with that. It controls the herd like nature intended. American people ate over 10 million lbs of cage grown, force fed, steroid filled chickens, like the ones Obama handed out on THanksgiving morning. I see a problem with cruelly raising animals like this. Does this make Obama an advocate of stuffing chickens in cages and then killing them without them seeing daylight?

She IS a politician, just like Barrak Obama whose political promises have drastically changed since being elected president. His platform is almost unrecognizable. He is realizing that he can't do what he said, just like Bill Clinton said. Face it he duped us.

This was a first class set-up. They have persecuted Palin for being a strong woman from the second she was announced as the VP running mate. Every one of the accusations made against her have been dropped and are not being spoken of anymore.

We have created a negative, morals hating, values hating, womans rights hating, freedom and liberty hating press. They find something negative to say about everyone and everything. They don't think twice about ruining a persons character. Just wait, Obama will be next. They already have portrayed Michelle Obama as a racist, jealous, radical bi*ch that is a fake. Don't believe it, look at the tabloid covers. Watch the entertainment shows. Do we even know this woman? She made one statement about finally being proud of her country and the press is using that to judge her character. We need to stop cheerleading for these people and begin to stand up to them and demand the truth.

Rev - I'll have to admit you were right on the 4th. I hope and pray he does a good job, I didn't vote for him but I do back him and wish him well. Not because he is the second black president but because Americans need and deserve it. We are still the best country in the world no matter what the negative press says.

Yada, yada, yada. I guess minus one, YOU you arrogant, idiotic, stupid, ill-informed and pios as well, priest.

I do not have a problem with hunting but I do have a problem with the weekend warriors who hunt. I live smack dab in the middle of one of the major hunting areas in Portage county and every day and especially weekends in hunting season I listen to the shooting. I will be drinking my coffee reading on my computer and I hear bang bang bang ….. long pause ….. bang bang bang ….. bang bang bang. And all that from 2 "great white hunters" whose big white dualie is parked at the end of the road next to my fence. They cannot hit the proverbial "broad side of the barn." It might not aways be the white dualie — it might be some other big truck but it is always someone (usually with Summit county plates) out for his weekend of fun killing or should I say trying to kill some game "for the table yea right!! I hunted with my father when I was a teen but have no desire to do so anymore. I can hit what I am aiming at but it is not safe out in the woods around my house because they let idiots hunt. My land is posted but I cannot let my dogs off leash and the horses in the back pasture when the weekend warriors out out "being men." They will shoot at anything that moves. If Palin can hit what she is shooting at and hunt honorably I have no problem with her hunting but that does not make her a strong woman. I know strong women and she does not show any signs of being one. She is a politician out for herself period! MSM goes for whatever story will give them ratings — any idiot should know that and adjust their behavior accordingly. She was not smart enough to do that.

  14. mary November 29th, 2008 at 8:13 am

And don't even get me started on the coon hunters and their damn howling dogs in the middle of the night — more game for the table. I hope they had coon for thanksgiving dinner.

Palin sticking her neck out for McCain? Enough already. Palin sticks her neck out for Palin. She is a media sensation - plain and simple. Palin is the millenium version of Princess Diana.

  17. averagejoe5 November 29th, 2008 at 10:40 pm

On the Alaskans for Truth - Did you see they had a count down to truth? They didn't get the answer they wanted so now they are creating more controversy and conspiracy. This is what I am talking about. They just keep making garbage up until they spin the lie enough to make the people believe.

Better than a crooked attorney that uses ACORN to recuit dead people to vote and steal elections.
