Laugh out loud hilarity from the New York Times and columnist Gail Collins: Thanksgiving is next week, and President Bush could make it a really special holiday by resigning….

….Putting Barack Obama in charge immediately isn’t impossible. Dick Cheney, obviously, would have to quit as well as Bush. In fact, just to be on the safe side, the vice president ought to turn in his resignation first. (We’re desperate, but not crazy.) Then House Speaker Nancy Pelosi would become president until Jan. 20. Obviously, she’d defer to her party’s incoming chief executive, and Barack Obama could begin governing.

As a bonus, the Pelosi presidency would put a woman in the White House this year after all. On the downside, a few right-wing talk-show hosts might succumb to apoplexy. That would, of course, be terrible, but I’m afraid we might have to take the risk in the name of a greater good.

Wow, does anyone wonder why the stock of the New York Times is sinking? The hatred that Collins has for Bush must have rotted her brain. For the better part of 8 years, we have all been subjected to people like Collins saying Bush is "shredding the Constitution." To print this in the NYT, she must actually be serious about the idea and think there might be a chance it could happen (she is because she added a "seriously" in there). There would be no better example of a blatant disregard of the Constitution than this. What about the "selected not elected" trash from 2000? Nancy Pelosi becoming president wouldn't be the perfect example of that? Plus Obama isn't ready yet; not all of his cabinet positions have been filled with Clinton retreads (latest example: Richardson, Bill) and he doesn't have any more Nancy Reagan jokes ready.

Democrats are going to have to wait until the actual inauguration day per the 20th Amendment. You've waited this long, 2 more months shouldn't be too hard. Just like I was embarrassed for Michigan yesterday, I am actually feeling bad for the New York Times after reading that. Never thought I would say about either of them.

I know this is just one column, but I can't help but shake the feeling that people out there actually agree with Collins. Which is actually probably why it was printed – because most NYT readers probably nodded with approval while reading. Just a wild guess, but I would bet that if Obama were to lose in 2012 we wouldn't see a column like this in the NYT, and not because they might be out of business by then.

More Change: "Mrs. Obama is the product of public education on the South Side of Chicago and she believes strongly in the importance of good public schools for all kids."

Just not for her kids. In DC or Chicago.

Gail Collins is not really being serious. She knows something like what she suggested is impossible….BUT….what Collins is correct about is the nation's contempt for George W. Bush and Richard Cheney.

Personally, I've suffered longer than most….because I knew George and Dick were criminals, and yes, Constitution shedders, in the winter of 2002. Can you even imagine how hard it's been these last 6 years?

Ben, seriously….if you haven't recognized the criminal nature of all that's gone on….then you aren't being honest. There can only be one set of facts. Torture, rendition, Guantanomo, 4th amendment violations, fraudulent propagandizing leading to war, politicization of the Justice Department….those are facts.

There has never been an American president more deserving of impeachment AND imprisonment than G.W. Bush. 2/3rds of Americans feel the same way as I do. You need to find out why that is and come to grips with it.

Nixon supporters had the same problem in the 70's. Despite Nixon saying he wasn't a crook….he was. Bush is exponentially worse than Nixon.

That's why Collins wrote the way she did. She is putting voice to America's mood….hyper-anxious to be rid of Bush and excited about putting Obama into office.

Yeah and Lincoln should have been impeached too.

    "Reverend",

You and that moron Collins would be being honest if you just admitted that it's your hyper-partisanship causing you to be anxious to be rid of a basically decent and honest man to replace him with a bunch of goofs more to your idealogical liking.

It seems obvious to me she's trying to be funny but can't pull it off.

Ben – call her ideas moronic, but don't call her a moron. Come on. You can critique better than that.

If the Supreme Court wouldn't have appointed Bush in 2000 as President, then maybe he would have just screwed up MLB as the Baseball Commissioner instead of screwing up the country over the last 8 years.

Seriously, is there anything that Bush and his cronies haven't botched over the last 8 years?

I guess the same retort used in 2000 used against Democrats is even more appropriate this time around with the minority who are upset that the grownups are back in charge:

    "Get over it!"

Jill, I probably could have, but she deserved it.

Rev, she is serious. Which is why she wrote "seriously" about her idea.

Gail Collins has been watching too much Keith Olbermann.

My initial response was too snarky, so I decided to be nice. That said there are 8,390 google results for Gail Collins is a moron.

I saw this written on another blog where the poster agreed with her and thought it would be a great idea.

My grandmother used to always tell me that it takes all kinds of people to make the world what it is. It sure does…
