Initial Reactions To Yesterday

It is a rare thing in politics to have a candidate come along that is exciting. I was fortunate to see Barack Obama speak for the first time at Cuyahoga County Community College in February of 2007. My three friends and I were giddy as we left the rally because we had found a candidate we were excited about. It has been a long ride and is remarkable to see him actually win. Watching the victory speech last night was surreal. Hearing reporters talk about a "transition team" is so strange. It is taking me a while to process what has happened. I can't stop watching the news.

To my Republican friends, I know this is a tough day. There are still a couple Senate races out there that look like they will break your way, but I'm sure that is little consolation. The good news for you is your party will be better in the long term and make adjustments. You have a deep stable of qualified candidates and will run a better campaign next time. Ben and I spoke on the phone last night for about 15 minutes. I could hear in his voice the frustration that I felt four years ago. I took no satisfaction in it. I know that next season can't come soon enough and it will be here before you know it.

    Kyle,
Why do think the stock market dropped 500 points the day after Obama was elected?

  3. annonymous November 6th, 2008 at 12:02 am

Change? No change. America just elected a man associated with criminals, organizations that promoted attempted voter fraud, racists, terrorists, whose main supporter is an America hating socialist, a man with no executive experience and admitted to cocaine use. A man that has no proven voting record. A man that wants to weaken America's defense and raise it's deficit. A man more interested in caring for the world than the citizens of Africa and subsidizing the UN even more. A man that lied to his constituents created a false hope and will never be able to fulfill his plans. Will this president be as controversial as the last 2? Probably. America has lost it's way.

With his energy policy we will experience soaring gas prices again. With his economic plan we will experience double digit inflation and double digit unemployment. People think today the DOW crashed because Obama was elected. It has crashed over the past month and a half because Obama was leading in the polls and Investors were taking profits.

However I do congratulate President Obama and he has my support as an American. He ran a hell of a campaign. Even though he out spent McCain by 6 to 1. I wish him a lot of luck and hope he does a good job.

Anne, I think the stock market dropped because investors didn't realize that Obama has to wait until January to be president.

Good point Kyle. Now that they know, look for a rebound until Jan. 21.

Now that Obama is the new president the only thing that will rebound is gas prices and the price of oil. DOW will bottom out unless Obama reassures them of their tax future. I don't mean to sound negative but he promises no drilling and he has Nancy and Harry to back him up. He has also promised to tax the oil companies because they made too much profit.

We have seen the sell off and taking profits for a few months now.

Hold on to your seats folks (or wallets) were in for a ride!

It will be interesting to see what he has to say today at 2:30PM….as we find out who will be on his transition team.

Obama has his work cut out for him, he knows it, and he isn't wasting any time getting started.

As far as the stock market is concerned, it's up today!
