"Dare to Dream:" Election 2008 Live Blog

I understand most people will be doing their own thing tonight, so I don't expect billions of visitors, but I plan on updating this at a decent clip as the evening progresses. Kyle is at some Democrat elite gathering, so it may just be me. If he wants to chime in, that is fine too. Plan on things getting started right before 7. Of course, if things start going terrible for Republicans, this will be cut short. I have better things to do than subject myself to a night of misery, let alone type about it.

11:31: That might be it for me now. I will probably stay awake to see what happens with the other states and races, but I have no spirit left to write about.

11:13: Ohio is creeping much closer, not that it matters a whole lot now.

11:06: Wow., does PA not even look that close.

10:59: Will be over in a minute.

10:35: Franken up 3%, 12% in.

10:29: Just had a cordial call with Kyle where I told him congrats. I remembered the bad feeling he had in 2004.

10:05: Wicker wins in MS. No 60 for Dems. It's something.

9:40: So this is how it feels. I'll tell you, not very good. I am a glutton for punishment, so I'll hang around. At least the Phillies won for me.

9:28: Don't know how much more I will have in me tonight.

9:19: FOX Says Ohio for Obama.

9:15: McCain down to +1 in VA. Not good.

9:00: First Bush state falls, NM. I see FOX calls for Ohio for Obama. Hmmm. COREECTION: They did not. 183-81.

8:47: Florida tightening..we'll see if it is enough.

8:35: VA looking decent for McCain..that is about it.

8:27: Sununu down to defeat in NH. That hurts.

8:10: Nervous about Florida. McConnell wins. Heard NBC/ABC called PA for Obama.

8:02: 77-39 Obama after the 8PM closings.

7:53: I'll say it again. I dont have faith in PA. Look for the first #s to be from cities, they usually are.

7:46: McConnell looking better….early reports from FL are mostly Obama areas.

7:30: McCain wins WV. Ohio shockingly too close to call. NC as well….McCain will win there, pretty confident about that.

7:22: I think McCain needs to win IN by 4-5% otherwise it could be a long night.

7:12: McConnell is going to come back and win right?

7:04: 8-3. We are winning!

6:51: Well, here we go. Fox News on one TV, NBC (not MSNBC) on the other. I'll be doing this on my new laptop, my old laptop is right here where I will be following specifically: NH, NM Senate, OH-15, 16, 13, PA-12, and VA, OH, PA, IN President.

  3. timjayfitz November 4th, 2008 at 7:58 pm

Have you found a decent live map somewhere?
I was looking at yahoo's but its not as up to date as what they have on cable…

  4. Kyle Kutuchief November 4th, 2008 at 8:09 pm

Tim, MSNBC has a nice live map. I think most of the major news sites will have one.

  5. timjayfitz November 4th, 2008 at 8:12 pm

I'm looking at the NY Times one now – it lets you zoom in to the counties…

  6. Ben Keeler November 4th, 2008 at 8:17 pm

    Cnn's is pretty good

  7. dan. November 4th, 2008 at 8:29 pm

We have our AP map up now on Ohio.com. Kind of nice, but I don't know how quick it's updating yet.

Ben, thoughts on McCain easily taking the politics.ohio.com poll?

  11. Ben Keeler November 4th, 2008 at 8:46 pm

Seems to be okay for me so far. I remember in 2004 at like midnight the web was crashed pretty much

  12. timjayfitz November 4th, 2008 at 8:48 pm

People keep saying the Obama might have wasted a bunch of money just to close the gap but still lose some red states.
I think it was worth it though because it will help down ticket.

  13. timjayfitz November 4th, 2008 at 8:54 pm

Ben, your boy Blackwell is being interviewed on MSNBC.

  14. Ben Keeler November 4th, 2008 at 8:57 pm

He had money to burn…so from that standpoint not an issue

  15. timjayfitz November 4th, 2008 at 9:00 pm

    PA!

  16. Kyle Kutuchief November 4th, 2008 at 9:04 pm

Indiana is really close with 27%. That is good news.

  17. Kyle Kutuchief November 4th, 2008 at 9:05 pm

Also, only TV media here is Dutch.

  18. timjayfitz November 4th, 2008 at 9:05 pm

Issue us 6 is losing and 5 is winning, thank god.

  19. Kyle Kutuchief November 4th, 2008 at 9:08 pm

Tim, great call on the NY Times map. It is by far the best one I have found.

  20. timjayfitz November 4th, 2008 at 9:12 pm

I like the county bubbles feature.

  21. timjayfitz November 4th, 2008 at 9:30 pm

  24. Kyle Kutuchief November 4th, 2008 at 9:33 pm

I'm worried about Virginia. McCain's margin seems higher than I would like to see. My hope is it is the typical scenario where the more populated areas haven't reported yet.

  25. Ben Keeler November 4th, 2008 at 9:34 pm

VA looking good for us…..thats about all right now

  26. timjayfitz November 4th, 2008 at 9:35 pm

Yeah – maybe only "real" Virginia is reporting so far…

  27. timjayfitz November 4th, 2008 at 9:36 pm

Only 2% in Fairfax County Virginia…isn't that a huge Dem area?

  28. Kyle Kutuchief November 4th, 2008 at 9:43 pm

CNN called PA for Obama. No surprise there.

  29. Kyle Kutuchief November 4th, 2008 at 9:49 pm

Judge Spicer getting beat with current totals that show other Republicans ahead.

  30. Kyle Kutuchief November 4th, 2008 at 9:50 pm

It looks like we could win Florida and Ohio early and chalk up the win.

  31. Kyle Kutuchief November 4th, 2008 at 10:14 pm

Mississippi is close. That is my sleeper pick. I say Obama takes it.

  32. fred November 4th, 2008 at 10:18 pm

if it is true that obama has won Pa. the is quess it is time for me to go to bed

  33. Kyle Kutuchief November 4th, 2008 at 10:28 pm

I'm done on the computer and going to celebrate. Congrats fellow Democrats.

  34. Kate November 4th, 2008 at 11:40 pm

This year its the economy and the Democrats. But as we all know, the country swings from Democrats to Republicans in cycles. Let's see where we are in 2 years.

  35. J. Rowsey November 4th, 2008 at 11:45 pm

Ben – We have to lose sometimes. It isn't the end of the world. We fought the good fight.

  36. DHM November 5th, 2008 at 12:52 am

Four more years of war is peace, ignorance is strength, and slavery is freedom!
Four more years, may all your interventions be humanitarian!
Four more years of pay-to-play politics, power, and influence!
Four more years of legalized bribery and served corporate interests!
