Our Meeting With Swedish Politicians

Last evening Kyle and I had the great opportunity to talk to a delegation of Swedish politicians. 42 senior officials from the Swedish Social Democratic Party are currently visiting our country during the run-up to the election. The members of the group include representatives of the Party Leadership as well as Senior Staff from the Party HQ and its Regional Directors. They split up into groups and are staying in 5 different battleground states. The group is being hosted locally by the Cleveland Council on World Affairs. The group is interested in learning more about the campaign, election process and the issues that are important to the American electorate. Yesterday they attended a John McCain event in Mentor and will see Hillary Clinton today. Though the two of us obviously lacked that kind of star power, we had a lively discussion.
I was the only person in the room at the Cleveland Marriott Residence Inn who wanted McCain to win, and one of two who thought he had a chance to do so. I think the conversations we had about the polls and the role of new media in this cycle were some of our best. Additionally, we finished up talking about how "socialist" is a dirty word to many here as compared to it's meaning in Sweden. They asked some great questions and hopefully we gave at least decent answers. Thank you to the CCWA for giving us the time to meet with them; it was a great experience.

I haven't seen too many posts on the Moran – Nero race so I will post this classic from this year. Nero sure didn't get his half million dollars the poster said he was going to get. The last paragraph might be one of the funniest things ever written on this website.

Nero flew back to Columbus from a corporate meeting to be sworn in, them had to return to his meeting. Tuesday was the only day he could take the oath and he was excused from the vote he missed. But he did cast votes on a number of bills that day so the record will show that he was there and voting. A non-starter of an issue.
He's also vaulted to the top of the House Republican priority list, which means they will probably spend a half million in the race for Nero. Nero is a Kevin Coughlin ally. Jon Husted and other Coughlin pals in the House will make sure they keep that district in Republican hands.
You're right. That is a funny comment because I wouldn't exactly call Husted and Coughlin pals. In fact, Husted has few pals because he works to exclude potential rivals from party activity while the ORP becomes his own personal PR firm.
The two are very different.
Coughlin voted against Bob Taft's tax increases. Husted voted for them.
Coughlin despised Larry Householder and his corruption. Husted was Householder's handpicked successor.
Coughlin regularly calls Ted Strickland out as an old school liberal. Husted bends over and lets Strickland have his way.
Coughlin is trying to get the Republican Party on a conservative path in Ohio. Husted is one of the primary reasons the party has lost it's way.
Coughlin is undefeated in six tough elections in Northeast Ohio. Husted is about to lose the House to the Dems.
Coughlin wants the corrupt and incompetent Alex Arshinkoff cast out of the Republican Party. Husted is controlled by Arshinkoff.
2010 is going to be defining year for the Republican Party in Ohio. People like Husted who have made us the state's minority party are going to be pitted against people like Coughlin who have never lost their bearings.
