Kasich in Hudson for Nero

This past Tuesday I attended a fund raiser for State Representative Rich Nero at Lake Forest Country Club. Former Congressman John Kasich was the featured speaker. Kasich really hammered home how important it was that Republicans hold on to their narrow majority in the Ohio House. Kasich is currently traveling around the state to help Republican candidates (he also spoke on behalf of Randy Cole for his race in the 41st earlier that day). Also he might be running for Governor. So that may have something to do with it. He was a good speaker and has a pretty solid stump speech and made excellent point after point as to why Nero would be better for the district than his opponent. If everyone could have heard Kasich's common sense talk on the race, Nero would win in a landslide.

Rich spoke before John and talked about the mailer I mentioned last week and the ABJ condemnation of it. People who have been going door to door for him said a surprising number people have taken notice of the Beacon calling out Mike Moran and the Democrats for their despicable ad. Residents of the 42nd are aware of it. That can only help.

Races like this one in the 42nd will help to determine the outcome of who comes out ahead on November 4 here in Ohio. Like we mentioned in our video the other night, high level surrogates on both sides are trying to swing this race. This is a split district and will probably come down to the wire. Rich has been out campaigning hard and knows it is going to be tight, won or lost precinct by precinct. It was good to see a number of prominent local Republicans on Tuesday at Lake Forest who understand the significance of Rich's contest, willing to give him an extra financial boost for these remaining days.

Through the course of this campaign, I have gotten to know Rich Nero fairly well. He is in this race for the right reasons. The 42nd has lacked leadership for too long and he just got tired of it and set out to do something about it. Many politicians on both sides of the aisle are not running for the right reasons. I want Republicans to win regardless of the candidate in most circumstances. Of course. That is the same as always and won't change. But in this case, I have witnessed up close the time and money that he has poured into this thing. Ohio Republicans will be down a good man if he doesn't keep his seat.

Side note: While I was at Kasich's website, I found this article from March 2007 in the Dispatch.

"If you travel into small towns like these that exist not just in Ohio but in Illinois, you'll find a lot of people who are hurting," Obama said last week in Columbus. "These are folks who have worked all their lives and don't expect a handout from anybody."

I guess he doesn't include those people in his federal tax cut for people who don't pay federal income tax. "Handout" would be the best word to describe that.

    Ben,

On his website Nero claims to be a "moderate Republican". If this is the type of leadership Nero is talking about, forget it. We don't need any more RINO's in office!

I will wait two years and then vote against Moran.

Why didn't you take some pictures? Who was there?

I don't even know if McCain can even win now. Reminds me of ford-carter, going with a complete unknown.

Hearing the Democrats regurgitate the talking points of Obama's "steady leadership" during the financial crisis is revolting. He didn't do or say anything!

The reason for lack of leadership to long is yours truly Alex Arshinkoff ran the district rather than John "Who's my Daddy?" Widowfield. John the people of 42 elected you, not Daddy and you let them down.

Soft is not a good thing right now for House GOP

The financial mess on Wall Street and John McCain’s slide in the polls are not making it easier for Ohio House Republicans to hold onto their majority.

Scott Borgemenke, chief strategist for the House Republican campaign, and Rep. Matthew J. Dolan of Novelty, the chairman of the caucus campaign committee, have each used the same adjective to describe general Republican support right now: “softer.” Others say internal polling on generic ballots have trended away from Republicans in recent weeks, reflecting public polls showing Barack Obama moving into a lead over McCain in Ohio.

But soft support at the top of the ticket doesn’t automatically mean voters will still be in an anti-Republican mood once they get down to their legislative races. Legislative campaign consultants often count on split-ticket voters. Plus, a poor climate can be overcome with hard campaigning, particularly door knocking, Dolan said.

“If our candidates continue to work as hard as they are, and they continue to show up on people’s doorsteps – while (voters) might have a national depression about how things are going, they really like the person who stood at their doorstep – you can overcome that,” he said.

Republicans, who must avoid losing a net four seats to stay in the majority, also note that in political terms, a lifetime remains before Election Day.

“The national environment goes up and down. In 18 days, the environment can look a little different,” Dolan said.

Alex, I cannot wait for you to finally go away back to the hole you came from.

In addition, I have checked the webb site out and somehow that word moderate is nowhere to be found. As useual you have been put on the spot Alex.

It's on Nero's website, it's under the banner "news". It is an interview Nero gave to some news outlet and he describes himself as a "moderate Republican". Idiot.

  8. Rep81 October 18th, 2008 at 3:37 pm

What exactly is wrong with being a moderate? Clearly we have seen the ugly side of politics from Moran, who has been bought by special interest groups and spreading flat-out lies. It's sad that Alex would rather have Rich lose because Rich isn't helping out "his boys."

Furthermore, we have seen the consequences of it on the national level, too. This whole financial mess wasn't looked into because of partisan ideaology getting in the way. I think it was Huckabee who said it best that people in Amercia aren't looking horizontal to someone all the way to the right or left. What people want is vertical politics, someone who can take this country up — not down.

Moran is an embarassment to the 42nd. We could use more people in Columbus and DC like Nero.

I vote democrat party line usually but nero is a guy I would support if I was in his district.

  10. Anonymous October 18th, 2008 at 9:42 pm

Alex. It was a news article he displayed from an interview. Until I hear him say he is I chose to believe otherwise. All that I see you doing at this time is deviding a party that needs new leadership and you gone. Fool.

Rich Nero is a reflection of the district, whereas Mike Moran is a liberal who is a member of the Progressive Democrats, the same group that sees Dennis Kucinich as their role model. Here's hoping Nero wins!!!

One more New Summit Republican bites the dust. An unimpressive campaign led by an unimpressive candidate.

Klinger is next. Her campaign slogan is "A 73% pay increase for your spouse in every pot!"

Now go break some recliner chairs out in West Akron and tell Mr. La@@@@@@i we said hello!
