Weekend Daily Part X

Rally. Wall Street ends down only 40 for the week. Tough end to a promising week for the Democrats. Turning on CNBC and seeing all those green arrows pointing up has to hurt. Sorry.

The Senate Gang of 20, originally known as the Gang of 10 and then the Gang of 16 disbanded. They will not offer their terrible energy bill – the one that would have "opened up" some of the Outer Continental Shelf for drilling. The entire bill was a CYA and was a sham. This also means that the off-shore drilling ban will expire October 1st, throwing the issue back in the news. It only helps one candidate. Not the one who just wants you to inflate your tires and shut up. And wants his supporters to get in your face.

Unhinged. Charlie Rangel says Sarah Palin is "disabled." Rangel should be worrying about paying his taxes instead of hurling insults. If this guy was a Republican he would have been run out of town long ago. But as is usually the case, if you are a Democrat it doesn't matter. Tom at Bizzy Blog says this is another example of democrats showing PDS, "Palin Derangement Syndrome."

Turning Around. Ohio's August unemployment figures are in. 7.4%. I wonder if Ohio and Michigan are going to just merge. Obviously all the fault of George W. Bush and Bob Taft. It just keeps going up and up. Is there any end in sight?

Potential game at Lambert Field: Joe Biden says the University of Delaware (1-AA) would "kick Ohio State's ass" in football. As bad as Ohio State looked against USC, I somehow I doubt that. Via Taxman Blog. I feel like this blog has mentioned Joe Biden more than we should have over the last week. Those rumors he will be dropped off the ticket still aren't going away, though I don't know who starts these things. For better or worse (depending on your point of view) he isn't going anywhere.

Lastly, a state of the race update by Jay Cost of Real Clear Politics. A good read for supporters of both sides.

Speaking of Biden dropping out, I posited it back on Sept 2nd. I might have been first. I was days ahead of Limbaugh,I think.

Obama took the lead in Rasmussen poll today.

Joe Biden is a buffoon. I would drop him in a second!

That was a good article by Cost, thanks for posting it.

    Trader I did see that.

Based on my averages, which are not exact, McCain actually won last night by about 1.5% give or take. But a big day for him went off and there were still two good Obama nights on there. Barring a big Obama night tonight, McCain should hold even at -1 or get back to even overall tomorrow. Complicating things is the fact that Rasmussen is reweighting +1 for the Dems starting tomorrow (overall partisan breakdown). I would be very surprised if tomorrows Rasmussen isnt one of the two figures I mentioned above.

As far as Gallup having Obama +6, I am a little mystified as to their lack of effective weighting. Some nervous folks on my side are claiming Gallup is intentionally sampling too many Dems to build support for Obama, that is obviously not true. Maybe they are right with their way and everyone else is wrong. I truly dont know. I said on another site (Nix Guy I think) that I thought Obama would be up +7 sometime this weekend. He, again according to my rough math, had a big night last night, so he could be up more tomorrow, also again barring a good McCain day for them today (unlikely). Gallup probably wont get any better for McCain until Tuesday or Wed. if it does.

The Gallup is more prone to swings and trends due to the non-weighting. I have a hard time believing that an 11% swing in like 10 days is real. I am not saying there hasnt been movement to Obama this week…there has. But its tough to objectively say it has changed 11% in that time frame. If you look at the internals for McCain, you can see he really isnt eroding.

Its close, I'd say Obama anywhere from 1 to 1.5% ahead right now. I think the race is much more stable than Gallup is showing.

Maybe that should have been a post.

    Ben,

You were strangely silent in some requests on your Bill Spicer post and I would like to know the answers to those questions.

There were many comments about taking out some good Republican officeholders, Callahan, Unruh, Bachman, Rogers, by what appears to be the NSR (30 percenters) crowd.

Have you personally ever spoken to those officeholders? If you had I am conficent you will agree these are intelligent, honorable public servants.

They also mentioned taking out Randy Cole for supporting Arshinkoff.

What I want to know is if you share the same sentiment of these people and do you also wish to see every Republican officeholder lose so that it will allegedly hurt Arshinkoff?

  7. Ben Keeler September 21st, 2008 at 12:54 pm

No I have never met any of those judges you mentioned and didnt make any comments on them. Yes, I do support Randy Cole.

Other than that, I am really under no obligation to tell you how I am going to vote on local races. I havent given a second of consideration to most of them and couldnt be farther off my radar right now.

I just wish other Republicans countywide who were pledged money good luck in finding other sources of it when they dont get it from the party.

Anyways, like I said, I dont really care much about Probate Court. I dont think many of us really do except true insiders. I just was pointing out how so much attention seems to be on the Spicer race. I dont think I said anywhere I wanted Spicer to lose (or win).

That energy bill was the biggest piece of garbage ever.

Well Gallup did not move strongly to Obama, but Hotline did today. And Ras stayed steady.
