To Some, One Race Seems Oddly Important

Driving around Summit County the last few days, I have been left to wonder if any Republican is running county wide besides Bill Spicer. The signs that say "Re-elect Judge Spicer" are everywhere. Signs for others are non-existent. Why?

Are a great number of Summit County residents really that fired up about the race for probate court? Or is this the race the Summit County GOP has decided to focus on almost exclusively?

The race for probate court judge is a big one for both parties. It carries with it 50+ patronage positions. I would even say that this race is probably more important to Alex Arshinkoff than John McCain winning the White House. The current crew at probate are his core group of supporters. He needs them to keep their jobs.

I think I just answered my own question. I wonder how many local people got phone calls that probably went like this:

Caller: "Hi, this is so and so from the Summit County Republican Party! We would like to place signs of local candidates in your yard to help us to victory this November! If you'll let us, we will stop by and put up the signs for you."

Person at home: "Uhhh, sure I guess."

Then a couple of days later the signs are there, only the signs are just one sign for Bill Spicer, and the people look out in their yard and wonder who is this Judge Spicer. After the certain local bloodbath for Republicans this fall, all will be well at GOP HQ if the probate court remains in Republican hands I suppose. I wonder if other local Republicans will get money promised to them by Arshinkoff?

NSR has an update on some of the latest party news.

Note: I have never met Bill Spicer and wouldn't know him if he knocked on my door. He could be the world's greatest judge and/or one of the best guys around. I have no idea. This post is a comment on why his race is getting so much attention from the party while other candidates are being hung out to dry.

It is pathetic that you are probably right about him caring more about SPicer than McCain or any other race.

  2. You Otta Know September 18th, 2008 at 2:33 pm

Why don't you stop drinking the NSR kool aide for once and talk to some other Republicans about what is going on in the county? Why don't you approach it with an open mind?

  3. Lawrence September 18th, 2008 at 2:41 pm

You Otta Know, Why dont you answer his question? why so much attention to this race?

  4. Kamal September 18th, 2008 at 2:43 pm

Is it Kool Aide that is going to cause Arshinkoff machine candidates to get slaughtered this November?

Why talk to the Arshinkoff sheep. Why not let events and election results speak for themselves?

If there is such thing as a sure bet, it's this: candidates who are associated with Alex Arshinkoff are going to lose. Badly. Even incumbents. That means you Bachman and Callahan and Unruh. Your names are tarnished with the Arshinkoff stink now. Enjoy it.

  5. Clueless in Cincity September 18th, 2008 at 2:50 pm

    Ben,

Was that an actual phone call or are you making that up?

  6. You Otta Know September 18th, 2008 at 3:01 pm

    Ben,

What I want to know is do you support that last comment from Kamal? Does that person sound like they want to elect Republicans?

Brenda Unruh, Lynne Callahan, and Greg Bachman are all solid Republicans, and they are good people with solid reputations.

Do you want to see these people re-elected or are you hoping for all Republicans to lose like Kamal so they can use it against Arshinkoff?

  7. Clueless in Cincity September 18th, 2008 at 3:04 pm

Exactly who is being left out to dry?

    I want specific candidates……

  8. angry conserv September 18th, 2008 at 4:19 pm

Yea get off his back. Without the patronage jobs to hand out how can he maitain his control. Without Alex who would decide whether a person is a good Rep. or bad?

  9. Hubris September 18th, 2008 at 6:09 pm

Since Alex is their pal, let them (Spicer, Bachmann, Unruh, Callahan, Rogers) defend their relationship with Alex to the broader voting public. I suspect Big Al's friendship won't be helpful for re-election in November.

  10. Big Al Loser September 18th, 2008 at 6:14 pm

Add Randy Cole to the list of Arshinkoff supporters with his endorsement of "Coach". Let "Coach" take him to victory.

Ben, get ready for the blood to spill in probate court. More later!

  12. You Otta Know September 18th, 2008 at 7:38 pm

    Ben,

Do you support this talk about taking out these Republicans?

Was that an actual phone call or are you making that up?

  13. Big Al The Loser September 18th, 2008 at 7:45 pm

It isn't about taking them out. It is about the friend(s) (Big Al and Co.) they keep. If Big Al is popular, the association won't matter, if it does then they will pay with their jobs. They stood by him now they should and will have to defend their relationship to Big Al to all the voters of Summit County and what the voters think about that relationship.

  14. Works Both Ways September 18th, 2008 at 7:45 pm

    Ben,

Get ready for the blood to spill over many many secret rendezvous' in Fairlawn and get this……A BROKEN RECLINER!!!!

Yeah that works both ways….paybacks are a @@@@@!!

  16. Hubris September 18th, 2008 at 8:02 pm

I wonder if Alex will spend more time trying to take out Republicans rather than focusing on Democrats. Luis Heydorn, Coates, Klinger, and Coughlin. No wonder the guy is a major liability. How many times will Husted, Dolan, and DeWine tell him to cool it with his garbage? A left over from the Taft, Blackwell, Montgomery regime that needs to be flushed away.

  17. Paybacks September 18th, 2008 at 8:25 pm

Will be a @@@@@. It all begins with that uneducated dolt in the mayor's office in Cuyahoga Falls that wants to turn the town into the next Barberton. While Ol' Sparky may not have much of an education, the parents, taxpayers, and residents of Cuyahoga Falls deserve better.

Hey Alex, you old has-been! How are you doing? How many relatives do you have working in Spicer's Court? Let's see, there's the court Jester, your brother. There's also the Court Fool, one of the Masich brother's. Is it the one that has the gambling problem? Oh, I'm sorry that's the one that works (if you even know how) with you in that lobbying firm that you have been rumored to be using party funds to run. But wait, I thought if you were chair of the party you could not have any job other than being chair? Well I am sure someone WILL bring that to the Executive Committee's attention even though they were all hand picked by you (Imagine that!).
As far as that open mind Fat Al all of us have tried to approach YOUR candidates with an open mind and all they are telling us is they have to run things by YOU first. Now talk about an open mind? You seem to be a puppet master, and they are the puppets.
Well getting back to the court clowns (and then some!). Clueless, There were Phone calls made When people would answer they were asked if they were voting for McCain. If they were there was 5 questions asked. The last question that was asked is if they would take a yard sign. If the answer was yes then a "SPICER" sign was put up, not a McCain. ALSO most important 4 years ago the national party to my understanding gave Alex money to pay volunteers to get things done to get "W" re-elected. Not ONE RED CENT was paid out. Hey Alex, where is the money? How many thousand did they give you? Did McCain's team give you any money and if THEY did, did you pay anyone with it or did it just "POP!" disappear? Just about ALL candidates that are Alex supporters are going to be left out to dry except Spicer. Now that sounds like a great way to run a team, doesn’t it? Way to go Alex!

  19. reality September 18th, 2008 at 10:25 pm

    Ben,

The reason you see some many Spicer signs up and noone else's is that they were placed illegally before any one else has. Akron permits them 45 days before the election and most other 30 days or less. So much for a judicial candidate that follows or values the law!

  20. New Summit Phools September 18th, 2008 at 10:30 pm

    Hubris,

You mean like the previous poster (probably you), who was bragging about taking out Bachman, Unruh, Callahan, Randy Cole, Rogers, etc. etc.etc. Just like when you took over the board and fired the loyal republican workers because they were not with your group of traitors?

It looks like that merry band ofthe "30 Percenters" also known as the New Summit Republicans have been busy posting instead of out working on campaigns! Of course what would you expect from a group that files 170 pc candidates. Idiots.

I can't wait to see Ol' Plastic B##b's Carol explaining away her husband's 70% pay raises she voted for!!

    CUYAHOGA FALLS TAXPAYERS DESERVE BETTER!!!!!!

Put your asbestos Star Trek uniform on Carol it's going to get hot!

  21. Arshinkoff's Last Stand September 18th, 2008 at 10:44 pm

    NSP,

Alex and his merry group of whiners and cheaters have begun to moan and groan and the election hasn't even taken place yet. Where oh where will Joe M., Carole A., and the others find work. The pure joy it will be when they get their pink slips.

  22. OldSummitRepublicans September 18th, 2008 at 11:32 pm

Some of us are beginning to think a new, third party may be the way, uniting former Reform Party people and conservatives tired and embarrassed by A. Arshnikoff.

P.S. Just for two words for Mr. Arshnikoff, Rogers Morton.

  23. Anonymous September 18th, 2008 at 11:36 pm

All I see is one of the Alex Rino's looking for their Daddy, have you found him yet? If you are so concerned about enslaving people why are you on here and not helping out yourself? Oh, I get it! your plotting a course for Star Fleet Acadamy.
One wonders if your really just do not care and only want things one way, your way. Oh how you love to shut debate up by bringing that gaval down.
As far as taking out Alex loyalists we shall let the Master of Disaster do that one, What do you say to that one Alex? Looks like your more concerned about your own boy Balony Bill rather than McCain and company, but I guess that is to be expected.

  24. anonymous September 20th, 2008 at 7:52 pm

You are probably giving the Spicer campaign too much credit. Likely republican judges are going to sweep. Parker will be Gippin, Callahan and McCarty will win. Spicer, Hunter, and Unruh have run many times. The only close race will be Rowlands and Holcomb. Individual candidates are responsible for their own signs or the same signs would be in every yard.

  25. Anonymous September 20th, 2008 at 10:34 pm

Callahan, Unruh and McCarty will win. Hunter toss up. Spicer and Holcomb will lose. Spicer is TARGETED, Holcomb is next.

  26. A REPUBLICAN AGAINST SPICER September 25th, 2008 at 10:18 am

I used to be a supporter – no longer! Judge Spicer is a crook who robs the elderly. I saw first hand his court doing it with his court appointed atrorney!

I ALSO saw some signs in neighbors yard – and then those people had them removed – so I 100% agree with those phone calls! FOR SURE that is their tactic. They are desperate to keep employment.

I would NEVER vote for Judge Spicer. FIRST HAND EXPERIENCE TAUGHT ME THIS LESSON ABOUT HIS COURT WELL.

  27. anonymous November 5th, 2008 at 7:18 am

What was it like Elinore to have it won and then have it taken away from you? Was your Dad's money well spent?

Spicer rules the court house. OH…and she can kiss that administrative judge job good bye.
