Fearless Prediction

Brace yourself. I agree with Ralph Nader.

Excerpt from The Politico: “He just has to swallow hard and do what JFK did” in picking rival Lyndon Johnson in 1960, said the liberal activist and maverick presidential candidate.

According to Nader’s logic, Obama may dislike Hillary, but will conclude he has no choice but to get over it if he hopes to leave next week’s convention in Denver with a unified party and a decent shot against John McCain in the fall: “The polls show 25 percent of her supporters have not gotten on board.”

“He’s got to be very concerned by the [neck-and-neck] polls and by what happened at Saddleback,” added Nader, referring to the recent candidates forum hosted by evangelist Rick Warren. “He got beat in Saddleback—big time.”

The longer this drags on and on and on and on, the more I think it will be Hillary. One month ago, she was not a possibility, but times have changed. Obama's lead in national polls in tightening. McCain is closing the gap or expanding his lead in virtually every state poll that has been released as of late. Obama wants to win. She has the most upside. No one is inspired by Joe Biden or Evan Bayh or any of the other names. Obama has yet to win over reluctant Democrats, many of whom supported Hillary. It could be argued that the downside of picking her would help solidify the Republican base, but polls show that has more or less happened already. It can't be argued she would have a problem going out to attack McCain for Obama. She would not. She is the pick I dread because of how it would shake up the race, and probably in Obama's favor. Many Democrats that back Obama despise Hillary, but I am guessing they would rather win with her as VP then lose with a Tim Kaine or Sam Nunn.

This theory totally ignores whether Hillary wants to do it. You know they dislike each other. You know she wants him to lose so she can run again in 2012 despite whatever she says. But could she say no?

I have no idea what McCain is going to do. Nothing would surprise me at this point, though I guess I could say the same about Obama. The longer this roll out of his running mate is delayed, the more I feel it is going to be a big name. If not Hillary, my money is on Biden, despite him saying today that it won't be him. All speculation of course. Which means it probably won't be HRC or Biden.

I agree with Nader too, but I think Obama would rather lose than pick Clinton.

I nver thougth I'd say this but she's the pick that scares me the most. She is the most fomidable.

If only she had gotten rid of that chubby intern chaser, she could have gone all the way.

    Reluctantly, I agree.

She is the only way that Obama can win; however, he will not pick her as he is quite arrogant

You may be right. I honestly have no idea. The more I think about this topic the more I think that anything is possible.

I agree. I think picking Clinton would be Obama's easiest way of overcoming his campaign's dismal last month. He's got to be aware of that. Her constituency is the one he needs most and the one he's been failing miserably at getting. It will annoy a lot of Obama purists though.

That's going to be one of the all-time most hated text messages when it happens.

[...] Hillary Clinton be Obama's VP pick after all? Ralph Nader says yes. So does Ben Keeler. (How often does that happen?) VP nominee Clinton wouldn't surprise me at this point. As I [...]

I go with Kyle on this - anything is possible. But I do not expect the pick to be Hillary.

    How about Bill? :)

I predict we find out today, Thursday, soon after Rush goes off the air.
