Citizens of America: Inflate Your Tires

  • Author: Ben Keeler

Citizen of the world, Barack Obama, today in Missouri:

Here is the text of the video: There are things you can do individually, though, to save energy. Making sure your tires are properly inflated — simple thing. But we could save all the oil that they’re talking about getting off drilling — if everybody was just inflating their tires? And getting regular tune-ups? You’d actually save just as much!

Get back on the teleprompter!! The crowd didn't seem too enthused by Obama's answer. Nice energy plan. Powerline does the math: So, on the above assumptions, it would take only 11,308 years of proper tire inflation to equal "all the oil that they're talking about getting off drilling."

So if we all inflate our tires, the problem is solved according to Obama. Maybe President-elect Obama can set up a plan to have police checkpoints to monitor everyone's tire pressure. I am going to head to a gas station as soon as this post is done and do my part. Then I won't have to worry about gas prices or oil anymore. But really, that is fine. I am not against inflated tires. But I am against that being your idea to avoid having to drill. No word if this just applies to Americans or also to people overseas.

No wonder Senate Democrats don't want any energy votes to come to the floor. Obama would have to vote on things like more drilling. I really think that is what the games in the upper chamber are all about at this point. Protection of Obama.

The House Democrats did their part today to avoid voting on drilling. By a vote of 213-212 they voted to adjourn Friday for their summer recess. Every single Republican who cast a vote voted to stay. They were joined by 17 Democrats. Not included in that 17: Stephanie Tubbs Jones, Marcy Kaptur, Betty Sutton, Dennis Kucinich, Tim Ryan, Zack Space, and Charlie Wilson. That is every Democrat in the House that represents Ohio. This must be part of that grand plan I heard so much about in 2006 that Nancy Pelosi and her crew said they had to bring down gas prices if we elected them (that have now basically doubled).

Also, I watched the first 2 minutes of this speech on TV today, just enough to see Claire McCaskill of Missouri introduce His Highness. I still can't believe McCaskill beat Jim Talent in 2006 for that Senate seat. She is terrible.

obama must be in the pocket of big auto shops

That's if you even belief that tire inflation saves gas, some debate it having any real impact at all.

As for regular tune ups? The main reason why many people don't have a regular tune up done on their cars is they can't afford the repair bills…Many who are not home owners are forbidden via their leases from doing any type of mechanical work in an apartment parking lot so even some with the knowledge/skill find it difficult to do or afford a tune up.

I thought McCain was supposed to be the only one out of touch with the struggling masses…Some may have made fun of Jimmy Carter when he put a sweater on but at least that was more based in logic than tire pressure….

This is hilarious! Using this conceptual idea, if I just polish my pennies, they will increase in value. No need to put them in a bank!

Wow, talk about trouble if this guy wins.

Here are my thoughts: Drill now, drill later and drill continuously, all the while building refineries to process the oil.

I will admit this sounds funny but I do notice that if I keep the tires slightly over inflated the fuel mileage does go up "some" and the performance of the tires like going around corners and driving during rain storms is enhanced. Him doing this however is weird for a candidate to do. What I notice in the polling with registerd voters Obama is ahead or in a dead heat. In the polling of most likely voters (those who ARE GOING TO VOTE THIS NOVEMBER) McCain is either slighly ahead or out side of a dead heat. Draw you own conclusions though, don't go by what I say.

Come on people. It's the context that illustrates the tire pressure and tune-up references.

Drilling in ANWR and offshore will make less of a difference in world oil supply than if we all just kept our tires inflated properly and our motors tuned up.

It's the GOP solution of drilling that Obama is having some fun with. And, sorry, the GOP solution deserves mocking.

And Jennifer…..no it's not like polishing your pennies and expecting them to be worth more. No.
Drilling our way out of our oil dependency is like invading a country to rid them of WMD they don't have. Totally misguided.

    Rev,

Nothing was taken out of context, as libs are so famous for stating. This bozo actually believes that if we all just keep the air pressure in our tires up and keep them tuned, that it will lessen our energy independence. He wasn't "having fun" or mocking anything- Obama actually believes that nonsense. Why don't you just admit that he is a fool that doesn't know the first thing about leading our great country?

Even Pelosi knows that increased supply will bring down oil prices, which is why she pressed to have oil from the strategic reserve released.

I suppose Obama's answer to world hunger is to tell people "just don't eat as much".

His policies of higher taxes and no drilling, no nuclear power will drive our country into a depression.
    Be afraid, be very afraid.

I suppose Obama had to say something but couldn't The 300 come up with something better than that?

  8. Ben Keeler July 31st, 2008 at 10:36 am

Vinny, you are correct. Nothing was taken out of context. When off the teleprompter, Obama said that if we all inflated our tires we wouldnt need more oil supply.

Unfortunately, it takes four tons of carbon-based fuels to manufacture a tire gauge.

  10. Mark McNally August 1st, 2008 at 6:26 am

OK, I tuned up my car and inflated my tires, and the price of gas didn't drop a penny.

    Can we drill yet?

These flat earth zero growth malthusians are causing the people to suffer. I hope the people wake up and assign the blame.

I thought it was a great plan

I have heard this clip over and over and never tire of it.

  13. Julie August 2nd, 2008 at 3:11 pm

NOW he changed his position on drilling!
There is no issue he wont flip flop on!

When I first saw this I thought "Obama is doing a Shell commercial" Then I realized he was campaigning.

I told my son to make sure the tires on his bike were inflated properly.

The part I loved is that when he made his statement, you could hear crickets chirping. Even his zombie followers didn't buy this one.
