Obama Focused On Women In Ohio

Last month's Quinnipiac Poll showed showed Barack Obama up 48% to McCain's 42%. That should be good news right? Well, it was, but at the polling memo reveals a problem for the Obama campaign. The bad news was that 25% of Clinton Democrats support McCain at the time of the survey.
Obama leads 51 - 39 percent among Ohio women likely voters, while men go 46 percent for McCain and 45 percent for Obama. White voters also are narrowly divided with 47 percent for McCain and 44 percent for Obama, but Obama commands black voters 90 - 6 percent. The Democrat also leads 58 - 36 percent among voters 18 to 34 and 49 - 42 percent among voters 35 to 54, while McCain has the 47 - 43 percent edge among voters over 55.
Again, 13 percent of those who voted for Bush in 2004 now back Obama, while 25 percent of those who backed Clinton in the primaries now support McCain.
The Obama campaign has a problem with women and they are looking to fix it. This weekend the Obama campaign will host women to women events across our state to connect with women voters.
To honor the 160th Anniversary of Seneca Falls, the Ohio Campaign for Change has joined with the Ohio Democratic Party Women’s Caucus to organize more than 50 Women to Women events around the state of Ohio. The events will highlight Barack Obama’s long record of supporting and fighting for women’s rights, and Senator Obama's strong support among Ohio women.
Barack Obama's campaign understands this problem and is working to reach our to Democratic women. Hopefully this effort will continue to bring our party together and decrease the number of Clinton supporters telling pollsters they will vote for Senator McCain. If you click here, you can see a map of the events across the state.
I'm looking forward to seeing if Obama's efforts have any impact on this month's poll.

My new favorite phrase is the "low information voter." This perfectly describes the supposed 25% of former Clinton supporters now backing McCain. I'm sure there is also a racial element to those numbers as well. After all there was virtually no difference in the issues between Clinton and Obama
But you missed the good news in that number. Twenty-five percent is the peak and that number will go down as the election nears and anyone paying attention will switch to voting for Obama. The question is by how much? If he picks up 5 to 10 percent more of those numbers it's a big swing.
Democrats consider "low info voter" someone who votes Republican and doesnt live in a city.
He can focus on women in Ohio every day, but he won't sway me.
JJ, good points. It will be interesting to see what that 25% looks like in this month's polling.
Pew shows where the largest problem area is and does a comparison of Obama to Gore and Kerry.
Some of it is related to former Clinton supporters, there are those who are undecided and those that are stating they are going to vote for McCain.
If these women are treated as women were treated previously? Being told how stupid they are for not supporting Obama, it's not going to go very far. There are quite a few out there that feel as Julie does.
Always this group or that group
all this pandering makes me sick
McCain is going to gain in the next round of state polling. State polls lag behind national pollls, especially this time of the year.
Mark my words, independents are going to break McCain. They are just waiting for something to get them to do it.
Being told they're racist isn't going to bring many of the women around either.
Women who say they supported Hillary and are now planning on voting for McCain, I'm sorry, are either not Democrats…..or they have some form of dyslexia.
McCain has done NOTHING to demonstrate he even cares about women. The straight talker would end Roe, no exceptions. Then there's the "trollop" and "c*nt" terms of McCain endearment with his wife.
Why in the hell would women vote for a guy who promises to take away their rights?
For spite? Because their favorite philly in the race lost?
And..
Appalachian voters are now the new "low information voters"?
Does the "low" part mean that these voters haven't accepted the 60's equal rights laws yet? You know, like South Carolina?
Good strategy……just hope it's enough to sway the independents who will be the core of winning the Ohio electoral votes.
More fibbing and elitist talk from the Reverend. I'll bet one of the biggest reasons some Hillary supporters will vote for McCain is that kind of talk from the Obamatons.
Yes, the scare tactics of OMG elect McCain and he'll take away your right to an abortion! *Gasp* Considering Obama's recent position on the mental health of the mother in late term abortions it's clear that Obama doesn't get the abortion discussion either. But I digress, you have however Reverend provided a perfect example of why some women are not turning to Obama, questioning their years of loyalty to the Democratic party by assuming that they must not be Democrats.
The variety of reasons if you've done any visiting to any of the number of feminist blogs out there are varied. Some see this is as a final moment to make a stand to let the Democratic male oriented party know that they have had enough, some are bitter about Clinton, some truly feel that they'd be better off with the known McCain than the unknown Obama. Some are unhappy but are supporting Obama because they believe he's slightly better than McCain, some supported Obama before. Some are considering voting third party especially since one party will have a woman as a presidential and a vice presidential candidate, some will vote for Democrats down ticket.
Some might have been convinced but the behavior thus far evidenced have made them believe that they are tired of a specific group of male Obama supporters continuing to act in the same arrogant manner that the candidate himself has demonstrated…Women you need as advocates out there trying to get other women to support Obama are saying "no thanks guys, not this time."
There is no "one reason" hence there is no "one plan" that will work to bring these women back, unless that "one plan" starts with men realizing that by attempting to threaten, demean or bully them? They are the ones who are cutting their nose off to spite their face. If you already feel as if it doesn't matter that you are not being listened to, all this type of behavior does is demonstrate that you were right the first time.
And while you tell yourself that these women will eventually "get over" whatever their reason is? Women most likely decided the 2004 election, Kerry got three percent less of the women vote than Gore did. There is a very good chance that this election will also hinge on who women vote for.
But what do I know, I'm just a woman…
