The Long Road Home Is An Excellent Series

Saturday night I was fortunate to catch a half hour special on WKYC called "The Long Road Home" with Eric Mansfield. The special profiled several soldiers and their families from Northeast Ohio. It focused on unique challenges these soldiers face as they make their adjustments back to civilian life after being in combat. WKYC has set up a special website which has video clips from the series. There are profiles of families, a college student, and a single mom. Kudos to Eric Mansfield and WKYC for their excellent work on this series.

I took a shower with Comet and a Brillo Pad then gargled with Lysol after attending the 2008 Ohio Democratic Party (ODP) "Family Reunion" State dinner on Saturday, June 21.
Chris Redfern, the Chair of the ODP, not only accepted money from one of the biggest multinational corporations in the world, Wal-Mart, a quasi-criminal enterprise that hates women and should be well known to readers of my opinion here, but also from BIG PHARMA — Pfizer and AstraZeneca.
Then, with outstanding ignorance, gave Wal-Mart an ad in the program, not far from SEIU's ad, "Healthcare for All."
But that's not all folks - the lobbyists at State Street Consultants ponied up a cool 25K to say howdy to the governor; I will not even address here how the lobbyists at State Street Consultants have worked against our newly elected Secretary of State.
And lo and behold, as if the backroom hypocrisy were not enough, the apparently completely clueless and/or unethical Redfern proudly displayed on a slide for the audience eating beans and succotash the list of BIG PHARMA, Wal-Mart, and lobbyists as proud sponsors.
Thank you, thank you, thank you, Wal-Mart, BIG PHARMA, and lobbyists. Your contributions are like a few fleas on my hamster's back to you.
The unions contribute through the dues of hard-working members, uh, yeah, like the JANITORS who make a miserable wage and are missing teeth. But, hey, that's O.K., we're in for the money, and screw universal healthcare or democracy in the workplace.
Give the money back, now, Redfern. You know your leadership of the ODP was hotly contested by the grassroots democrats and progressives because, in part, it was said that you had accepted Wal-Mart money for your own campaign.
Didn't you say, at the time, that it was only $50.00 and you would never do it again?
Well, if you did, you lied.
You're whoring the party, and Mr. Republican Lite, you have sadly lost touch (if you ever knew) with what makes the party, the party's history, or even the party's principles.
It is unforgivable and unprecedented that you would break with the hard-won history of the party of the people and the very real sacrifices people have made for the party to take these corporate lobbying crumbs and then blandish them in the faces of the Ohio Democrats.
What a slap in the face. You know the people would have staged a walkout if they knew.
But I guess you don't need the people now that you have the multinationals behind you.
Back to the shower for me: I still cannot get the bad taste out of my mouth or the slime off of my skin.
