Obama Beating McCain 48% - 42% in Ohio

From a Quinnipiac University poll released today:

"With strong support from women, blacks and younger voters, Illinois Sen. Barack Obama, the apparent Democratic presidential contender, leads Arizona Sen. John McCain, expected to be the Republican candidate, among likely voters in Florida, Ohio and Pennsylvania, according to simultaneous Quinnipiac University Swing State polls released today. "

OHIO: Obama 48% - McCain 42%
FLORIDA: Obama 47% - McCain 43%
PENNSYLVANIA: Obama 52% - McCain 40%

Ben has told me in previous posts that I live in a fantasy land where Clinton Democrats end up supporting Obama. It has only been 11 days since Senator Clinton dropped out of the race and already Obama's numbers are moving, which is a sign of our party coming together. The numbers in Ohio and Florida are especially encouraging and expand the battleground states. Now, I realize this is only one poll, but I believe over the next couple of weeks we'll have several polls showing similar numbers. I think mid July is when Republicans are going to really start to panic over the candidate they have nominated.

How long until Ben posts a comment about how unreliable the Quinnipiac polls are?

With that Florida poll, here is the current Electoral College totals:

    Obama 344
    McCain 194

Done. Ballgame. Blowout. These are the only words to describe this election.

And I am pretty sure there is an archive out there somewhere, during his hopes for Mitt Romney, where been said Obama would blowout McCain, because Obama would win the independents. That's whats happening.

Jim Geraghty has an interesting post at NRO about a recent poll in Ohio which shows Barry Obama with a solid lead over John McCain in Ohio. However, the breakdown of the polls shows the party ID breakdown to be Democrats 55, Republicans 30, and Other 15. One would expect Republican numbers to be lower than they were in 2004 (40%), but not by 10 points.
In their defense, the polling firm used Survey USA, another questionable polling service, to defend their numbers.
    Thank you Naug Blog

Of course anytime I see a bad poll I get nervous. However, I dont live and die on June polls and dont really see them worthy of their own post.

Obama leads 48-42 overall, Democrats prefer Obama 80-13, Republicans 87-7 for McCain, and Independents are going McCain 45-43. Makes sense to me……..

Wake me up the first of Nov.

Just shows how mind numbed people are in June over something that's going to happen in November. A few more months of $4 gas should shake them back to their senses soon enough.

4 dollar gas in the fall will mean a blowout favoring Obama.

    40 states, baby.

Obama is about to become the "I like high gas prices" candidate, Reverend.

    HEY GUYS, just out

    Rasmussen OH McCain +1
    Rasmussen FL McCain +8

Maybe I should make a post for each one of these June polls.

If Obama is successfully and correctly tagged as the $4 a gallon guy, this election could be a blowout the other way. Republicans need to put together a massive ad campaign showing clips of Democrats over the years saying "don't drill ANWR it won't help because won't be on the market for 10 years." Include video of ANWR showing how expansive the area is and how little area would be affected by drilling. End the ad with an explanation that it is well past ten years since Dems said don't bother exploring since it would be ten years to get it. The average voter doesn't know how much Dems have fought wrongly against adding supply to the market. This is an issue that will resonate if correctly explained.
