BHO to Campaign Staff: "We Need a Bigger Bus"

Tonight we saw the continuation of the pattern of tossing people under the bus by Barack Obama. But I don't get it. In Philadelphia back in April Obama said "he could not more disown the Reverend Jeremiah Wright than he could disown the black community or his own grandmother and spoke about how Trinity United "embodies the black community in its entirely.'" Then he dumped Wright. Now the church. Maybe it had something to do with the latest video from that Pfleger guy….by the way if I am Obama's church (former) why am I letting people record what is going on there after all that has happened? The most recent tape was actually likely the final straw; it wasn't a great first outreach to Clinton voters. From the AP:

"I'm not denouncing the church and I'm not interested in people who want me to denounce the church," he said, adding that the new pastor at Trinity and "the church have been suffering from the attention my campaign has focused on them……….It's clear that now that I'm a candidate for president, every time something is said in the church by anyone associated with Trinity, including guest pastors, the remarks will imputed to me even if they totally conflict with my long-held views, statements and principles," he said.

The damage is done and has been done. This won't help and if anything it hurts him. I do like the attempt to blame the media. Barack Obama trying to blame the media. That is worth a laugh, even at this late hour.

Plain and simple, Obama is just your average politician. He always has been despite his facade. Just like John McCain. They both are. They will do whatever it takes to win. That is the only reason you do what Obama did today. It didn't just occur to him in the last couple days that it was time to move on from Trinity United Church of Christ due to what was being said there. Obama hasn't changed, but the political seasons have. Oh, and the sermons he listened to for 20 years and other recent ones showed up on YouTube. Obama tonight made two mistakes. He said nothing to denounce what was said and secondly we now know that he is only interested in the political burden of this problem.

Many Democrats pledged their lives to Obama on the basis of a very good speech at the Democratic Convention in Boston in 2004 without knowing much about him. Those that didn't go that route have to be a tad nervous right now in a race they should be leading by double digits.

Tom Blumer raises a good point:

*The theory among the Truth in Blogging radio corps is that Barack is afraid that there is an explosive video of Michelle Obama going off from TUCC's pulpit, and that his "resignation" is partially an attempt to prevent that from happening.

Not related at all: Did anyone see that fight on CBS Saturday night? Pretty disgusting when the ear of the guy from England broke open and started bleeding everywhere.

I would think throwing his church under the bus would make the revealing of an explosive video more likely rather than less.

Many churches do record their services on tape whether it be on audio or video. The one of that so-called "preacher" (I am reminded of the word Anathama) believe it or not they may think this is how America thinks or should think and are in a rush to get it to the masses.

Obama gives his answer for the question of why now….

"It's clear that now that I'm a candidate for president, every time something is said in the church by anyone associated with Trinity, including guest pastors, the remarks will imputed to me even if they totally conflict with my long-held views, statements and principles," he said."

Because of the right's majoring on minors and guilting and smearing by association…..AND…..the complicit media's continual replaying of those same smears on 24/7 loop…..Obama has now, with this break, sought to minimize the rabid stupidity, so that it doesn't become the central focus of the general as it has in the primary.

If politicians are guilty of bad judgment for their associations with their personal church's clerics who do or say extreme things…..wouldn't all Catholic politicans have to resign?

Obama has repeatedly said that when he attended church he hadn't heard Wright's more extreme wording. He then gave Wright the benefit of the doubt trying to make it into a positive growth opportunity with his speech on race. Then Wright's ego got in the way and Obama had to break with him. Now the church, itself, has become the focus by the media who will look under every pew for more guilt by association evidence.

Thus, Obama's break with the church.

And Ben: I'm telling ya'…..Michelle Obama conspiracy foil may look inviting…..but if the conservatives go there too often….you'll only reap a more bitter backlash in November.

I would hope the issues and the distinctions on those issues by the two candidates can now be discussed openly.

Rev, You are one of the people I am talking about when I say "people that have pledged their lives to Obama." You just will never say anything bad about him, no matter what.

The answer is political and he is throwing them overboard after using Wright and the church for early gain in his career. He thought early on standing by him would make him look like a strong leader and someone who wouldnt bow to pressure. If he felt that standing by the Church/Wright et al would help, he would have. 100% no doubt. Just like McCain made the 100% pure politcal calucaltion to renounce the endorsements of the people he sought out the endorsement of like Hagee.

Rev, as a religious man yourself, you can not honestly believe that he knew nothing of the extreme stuff Wright said. You are a smart guy and I just dont buy that you bought into it.

I was never even going to say anything about that newest video by that nut job who got those earmarks from Obama. I was actually going to give Obama the benefit of the doubt. I dont know why because I have to try and counter comments like yours that buy every single damn thing Obama says hook line and sinker.

I should say I wasnt going to bring up the new stuff until Obama decided to toss them all under the bus.

    So, who's next?

  6. Anonymous June 1st, 2008 at 9:36 pm

Early on did not the media say how great this "pastor" was to be obama's mentor? then one thing lead to another and WHAM like a 2X4 in the face this guy needs to be tossed which he finnally does just to look good and thats it as far as I am concerned. If obama has been attending this "church" for 20 years he in my opinion would have heard something wacked out. No doubt about it. Or has he been sleeping in the pews from the boring retoric?

  7. angry conserv June 1st, 2008 at 10:50 pm

Obama joined that church as a calculated move to help build his political base in Chicago and now it is in his best interest to leave the church behind. Nothing new here just a politican doing what they do.

  8. larry d. June 2nd, 2008 at 6:46 am

His attendance at Trinity was once rock solid proof he was never a Muslim. Now I guess he wasn't really all into the Christian church stuff.

  9. Kyle Kutuchief June 2nd, 2008 at 7:56 am

Ben, I understand that you are unhappy with John McCain in general, but don't try and bring Obama down to his level. I agree with that generally McCain is just your average politician and I appreciate you saying so. However, I would point out that he does have an extraordinary record of service to our country. The issues that matter to the American people favor Democrats and Barack Obama is the best candidate we have to carry our message forward. This is going to be a great week.

  10. Chuck O June 2nd, 2008 at 10:18 am

wow ben you are right they will never say anything bad about Obama, and the refusal to understand how people could be offended by what Wright said and what has happaned since gives me much more hope for a McCain Thanksgiving

  11. Mark McNally June 2nd, 2008 at 1:03 pm

    Ben,

Excellent headline. "We need a bigger bus". LOL.

I hope they've saved space under there for Tony Rezko, William Ayers, Bernadine Dohrn (sp?), Louis Farakhan, and Rashid Kalidi among others.

  12. Joe M June 2nd, 2008 at 2:18 pm

Now he can join a mosque

  13. Billy Bob Thornton June 2nd, 2008 at 2:58 pm

Yes I saw that fight when Thompsons ear got split open.

That was rigged. No way Slice was losing.

  14. Ben Keeler June 2nd, 2008 at 5:23 pm

Chuck O, you are right. I dont know why I ever try to compromise or find middle ground with them.

BBT - No way Slice was losing. Agreed, 100% rigged.

    Thanks Mark.
