Akron Canton News Has Final Broadcast Last Friday

This past Friday night Ben and I were invited to attend the last live broadcast of WKYC's Akron Canton news, which has been anchored by Eric Mansfield. There were about 25 friends and family in the studio at the corner of Main and Market to watch Mansfield do the final broadcast solo. There was no producer, support staff, or even camera man. The live camera was controlled robotically from Cleveland. It was a one man operation and was impressive to watch. I have a lot of respect for the communication skills Mansfield has to deliver the entire broadcast without a slip up on the first take. As the broadcast ended, the room stood and cheered and Mansfield left the stage to kiss his wife and hug his kids. His career in Akron will continue as he will remain the Akron / Canton correspondent for WKYC in Cleveland, but will no longer have a full broadcast to call his own.
