Chuck

People dislike Congress but like their Congressperson. The reelection rate for incumbent congresspersons is very high. Congress has had low approval ratings in the past and most incumbents win. Mainly in open seats and swing districts are congressional races most competitive. Also, the President is one person but Congress is made up of 535. It is much easier to show dislike by not voting for one person. People do not blame Congress's lack of quality one on person and citizens can only vote for one member of Congress, not 535. My point is how people react to unpopular Presidents and Congress are completely different.

Well I hope Hans is right about Ohio going red. Republicans are in dire straits without Ohio.

Democrats can do it (make up for Ohio loss) by picking off Colorado / Iowa and New Mexico or Nevada, Virginia and Iowa, Virginia, New Mexico, Nevada. It is easier for them to win without Ohio, but writing it off is stupid, they need to pin down Republicans here.

Any Democratic candidate from here on that counts on getting themselves elected President is a complete idiot to use Ohio in his or her math to gain the White House. Ohio-ians continue to vote against their own best interests, time after tiring time. Barack Obama doesn't need Ohio to win, nor Kentucky for that matter with the Western States electoral map. No offense but us westerners are done giving your ijdits in the east & rustbelt states the responsibility of getting a Democrat to office as you choke time after time when you are called upon. I don't even have anything in my blog to link to Ohio as it no longer matters.

oh goody, I see in the sidebar Strickland says "no", that's good because even with your own governor, Ohio probably still won't go blue. Have you got rid of Ken Blackwell yet?

sorry not meaning to be so harsh, but i watch your state from outside and am continually in disbelief of wrong choice after wrong choice, ideology over how people are effected directly making their decisions.

my rants without even considering how Ohio negatively impacted on my life;)

I agree with you Kyle. More Democrats will vote for Obama after the primary process is completed.
The Republicans do not completely acknowledge President Bush's and the Republican Congress' many, miserable failures and how they affect McCain. The numerous Republican mishaps in this country are bringing McCain down. Republicans have messed up and they will pay by losing big in November. Bush's failed Presidency is negatively impacting McCain's and Congressional Republicans reelection campaigns. Look at the three special elections in Republican districts that Democrats have won.
Obama will win because he is a good candidate and the public is tired of awful, ineffective Republican policies. It is going to be a great year for Democrats. For many Americans, the 2008 Presidential election may be more about voting against President Bush and the status quo than voting for Obama.
Do people find Obama's candidacy appealing on the merit/issues or his message of change? I think both but the change message is especially attractive to many citizens.

of course winning ohio would be great and would make in an Obama blowout.

and it would be nice if Ohio was called for Obama in the early evening of November 4, just so nobody has to stay up really late waiting for Obama to lock things up with the Mountain states.

Obama needs Ohio. We are always a battleground for presidential politics and will be heavily contested. Also, Obama's message is well suited for Ohio and he's going to do very well here.
