Code Red at AG Office

Give Marc Dann credit. He fired / got rid of three staffers (two of which are Youngstown friends) but he has determined that he will stay on. Interesting and quite a stance. Dann fired Anthony Guiterrez, the main employee who was the focus of the original sexual harassment complaints. Leo Jennings, his spokesman, was fired after attempting to get an attorney in the office to offer untruthful testimony to Ben Espy's investigation. I often said Jennings had the hardest job in Ohio being Dann's spokesman, but I thought he was doing things the right way. Edgar C. Simpson, resigned last night instead of being fired this morning. Former Dann scheduler Jessica Utovich also quit last night.

Eric Mansfield did a write up of the saga and this was in there: He (Dann) also says he never expected to win the election and that he's been turning around his behavior and that of others in his office for the last few months.

Huh? He never expected to win the election so he didn't know how to act? That doesn't even make sense.

Hard to see how Dann survives all this. If it was this alone, he could probably ride out the storm. But there are just too many other incidents. Dann will be a weight around the ankles of the other Democrats if he runs again. I was reminded today of the Bill Sloat piece about potential AG replacements. It seems a lot more relevant today. Matt Naugle had it before the turn of the year and was mocked. Looks like he is owed an apology by many.

I can't wait to see what the Professor says later today. He has been all over this from day 1. Writes Like She Talks liveblogged the Dann press conference.

Update: I found this over at Plunderbund. Eric says he was lied to personally by Jessica Utovich.

I see that Ted Strickland is going to be in Indiana with Hillary. When he gets back, I suspect Dann will be getting a phone call.

    Dann will have to resign.

There is no way he can survive. Like Ben said if it was just the one incident then he could ride it out but there has just been too much stuff going down there. Quite a change from the Jim Petro days in terms of office behavior. No matter what you think of Petro he ran a tight ship and this BS never would have gone down there.

I thought Guiterrez would quit or be sacked over the automobile issues not the harassment issue(which I find very questionable). I am surpeised Dann threw the other two overboard.

Republicans need to start looking for a quality candidate for this race about right now to start winning back some offices.

i heard dann was on the reapportionment board
    is this true

  8. Ben Keeler May 3rd, 2008 at 1:59 pm

    No that is not true.

It is the Governor, Auditor, and SOS. Plus one R and one D legislative person…….so as of now it would be 3-2 Dems. Republicans need to win either Governor or SOS in 2010 and hold the auditors office to control the redrawing of the Ohio congressional map.

Too bad the AG isnt one of those on the board though.

Marc Dann should resign; the party leaders must pressure Dann to step down. He actions greatly harm the Democrats in Ohio for the 2008 presidential election and the 2010 state elections. I am very disappointed in the Ohio Democratic Party. I thought they wanted to change the culture of corruption in Ohio politics. Ohio needs new leadership. The governor, definately the secretary of state, and especially Marc Dann have underperformed. Unfortunatley, these are not the people who will turn around Ohio.

Dann has to and will go. We didn't vote out republicans for this garbage.

Dann has much chance as the Cavs will against the Celtics.
