Getting Closer……

Sunday the Beacon ran a lengthy piece on the upcoming Arshinkoff - Klinger race. Maybe you read it. After a quiet month or so, the leadership race is coming back to the forefront. With the final vote finally taking place on April 30, this is going to a big week. If rank and file Summit County Republicans got to choose, Klinger would win. It really isn't a question. However, the only votes that matter now are those of the elected central committee members.

No need to rehash the article point by point. Not mentioned was the party paid Escalade or the meals or other wastes of party money. But there is some of the usual conspiracy garbage that Alex spouts about Wayne Jones and what not. Arshinkoff's latest BS rant is that Klinger won't be a "full-time chairman." Well, neither is Alex. He is also a lobbyist.

I thought the most interesting quote of the piece was from Tom Murdough - "A fresh new chairman would dramatically improve the level of contributions and I think the caliber of candidates would be upgraded." That is true. A lot of people won't give even a dollar to the Summit GOP right now because they know it will be wasted on something like helping the chairman keep his job.

It's time to unseat Arshinkoff for better and more competent leadership. Klinger and other new officers should be able to take the party in the right direction with integrity - and that is something our party currently lacks. The party also lacks wins, which is kind of an important thing when it comes to a politics. It is pretty simple. No hidden reasons. The party is bigger than one person, though some current leaders don't seem to think that.

As we noted last Friday, the vote is on Wednesday April 30. It will be closed to the public, but I will be there outside. Maybe I will see Alex milling around. After all, he declined to run again for central committee and is no longer a member so I don't see any reason he would be inside at Tangier. There are a few questions I would like to ask him, but I doubt I will get the four hour courtesy Alex showed the Beacon for this interview.

UPDATE, 3:55 AM, Tuesday: Lefty Akron Blogger Pho chimes in with his perspective.

Unrelated: Last week I said I would tell you Monday how much Hillary would win the the PA Primary by. I'll say by 8%. It isn't a question of if she wins - just by how much. Obama's seems to have a poll ceiling of around 43 or 44. It looks awfully similar to Ohio - big early lead for Hillary, Obama closes the gap, Hillary extends her lead again. With the bad news cycle Obama has had, tough to see a scenario where he gets a large majority of the undecideds to go his way in order to make the race a close one.

Wouldn't the chairman preside over the meeting even if he was not on CC? Who would lead the meeting?

  2. Ben Keeler April 21st, 2008 at 1:24 am

The way I understand it - and anyone can correct me if I am wrong - that the meeting and voting part of it will only be for CC members and since Alex Arshinkoff is no longer on the Central Commitee that he wont be present for the actual vote. Or at least shouldnt be.

  3. Kyle Kutuchief April 21st, 2008 at 7:44 am

Does anyone know how the vote actually works? Is it a secret ballot or a public vote? I'd think a secret ballot favors Klinger and a public vote favors Arshinkoff.

  4. angry conserv April 21st, 2008 at 2:18 pm

Neither candidate will be present. It is a secret ballot. Who is actually running the meeting is a good question. I
fear that pereson is an Alex stooge and he who runs a meeting often is able to inluence the results.

  5. Anonymous April 21st, 2008 at 2:44 pm

Obama has only had a bad news cycle because people like you have pushed the Sean Hannity line of attacks on him.

  6. carter April 21st, 2008 at 3:58 pm

OK, if the new republicans have no problem with a Dem hand picking there rep to the elections board ,No problem with judge Hoover his wife and Klinger running a election campain for a Dem,Wayne Jones,Useing forged names on endorsements, for the new republicans. Klinger cutting a deal with Jones so the person she found in the last electrion rasied no money, didnt campain, And these people are who should run the party. Why? they are Dems. And if they pull this off they will be in Jones office with knee pads on and there mouths open.

  7. angry conserv April 21st, 2008 at 4:34 pm

    Carter,
I agree that the whole thing with Brunner and her activities smacks of power politics and is very troubling. Alex may have done great things in the past but as is often the case too much power corrupts and often leads one to thinking they know what is best and to disagree is grounds for retribution. When he uses the headquarters to publically decide who is a good Rep. and who is not and then uses his power to hurt that person outside the political arena it is time for change.

  8. Kaybod April 21st, 2008 at 5:34 pm

I f the vote is by secret ballot I think Klinger has a good chance. She certainly has good credentials and she seems willing to avoid totally hands-on management, looking to others to share the power and responsibility with. From reading about Alex, he still seems to have enough influence and connections to win a vote that is not secret.

Also thought it was interesting that someone like Tom Murdough was calling for a Klinger win.

It almost sounded like Alex was offering an olive branch ( a negotiated settlement) when he said maybe he'd be willing to
step aside in a few years. At least that was my impression of that remark.

  9. carter April 21st, 2008 at 7:08 pm

The commen therad in all this is Wyane Jones A DEM. Klingers credentials ,if that is what you call them, are cuts deals with Dem ,uses others names without there permission, and has ties to Jones.Again anyone really think she will not give Jones and the DEMS what they want if she wins.Kevin is just a coward ,out of town, when it hits the fan . Nothing new there ,he has always been self centered.

  10. keelerclown April 21st, 2008 at 9:20 pm

what a little know it all pr@@k keeler is. why would arshinkoff talk to him or give him any time as you would a reporter? He owes this little piece of crap nothing. you are working for coughlin.

This is what is so wrong about blogs. no objectivity. keeler is a know nothing piece of garbage who suckles at coughlin's teat, yet he gets to spout off like he knows anything. why doesn't keeler the clown talk to just about every other PROMINENT republican past and present elected official to get the truth of the whole deal.

I am really looking forward to seeing keeler myself at that event. I look forward to hearing him talk with his silly little lisp!!!!!

  11. keelersux April 21st, 2008 at 9:34 pm

klinger's side is already prepping for defeat lisp-boy. how about that stirring event the klinger crew just hosted at the masonic temple….what were there ten people in attendance???

klinger's side is already prepping for defeat.

how about that stirring event the klinger crew just hosted at the masonic temple for pc folks….what were there, at the most ten people in attendance???

the funniest part was the look klinger gave to coughlin when he cut klinger off in mid sentance and would not answer a question that was asked.

no actually the best was when don varian was asked why the republicans at the board were fired when he took over and varians's timeless response was, "they were not fired, they were just not rehired!"

you can't make this stuff up!

    keelersux and keelerclown,

I'm curious to know why Arshinkoff is so deserving to keep his job. You don't counter any of Keeler's statements with anything other than childish name calling. Why is it a good thing that Arshinkoff spent $300,000 to keep his job? Why is it o.k. for Arshinkoff to waste party money? Finally, with few (if any) wins, what makes you say Arshinkoff is even doing his job?

p.s. What lisp? Have you actually talked to Keeler or are your comments here part of your 5th grade social studies project?

  15. Ben Keeler April 22nd, 2008 at 12:43 am

    Good times.

Well I will be there. And you can tell me that I have a lisp, which I do not, to my face. But you wont, because you comment under fake names.

And even if I did, it wouldnt be something I could help anyways, so your insult is terrible.

hey "keelerclown," what PROMINENT Republicans in the County should I be talking to? There sure arent a whole lot to choose from. No kidding I am not objective. I havent been since day one and have never pretended to be.

  16. Follow the Money April 22nd, 2008 at 5:56 am

Any prominent public official that supports Alex can be identified by simply following the money. Mary Taylor is the best example of why she supports Alex. Jack Morrison trustee at the University of Akron, friend and replacement of Alex on the Board of Trustees at the University and has an active role in the local political cabal. Now Welty Construction is one of 3 remaining lobbying clients for Arshinkoff and Associates that Welty (Donzell and Mary Taylor's company) pays substantially for. Thus, Alex maintains his connections by insuring their pockets are lined with contracts and money.

  17. keelerpuke April 22nd, 2008 at 7:05 am

How much money has the coughlin side spent lisp-boy?? Shouldn't that money be spent on Jim Laria's campaign???

Republican officeholders in the county wil be feeling this for years…..wait till the turncoats get their names on the ballot again…..

  18. Too late April 22nd, 2008 at 7:20 am

This race was officially over when:

    a. Jones and the coughlin group got greedy and appointed Varian to the board instead of some faceless republican with no apparant attachments to the new summit clan.

    b. In an act completeley devoid of all self control, Varian sided with Jones and the other democrat on the board and fired only the current republican employees at the board.

These actions completely supported Arshinkoff's conspiracy theories about the Wayne Jones, Coughlin, Brunner cabal.

  19. JoeM April 22nd, 2008 at 1:01 pm

keelersux must be an alex supporter who is too ashamed to use his own name.

  20. Phantom Master April 22nd, 2008 at 8:44 pm

Alexis I mean carter, keelerclown, keelersux, keelerpuke, Too late, and whatever else you can dream up. I can tell you are thru as chair. Want to know why? Because the despiration of you demeaning writings,. The disrespectful and condisending language and above all else the pre adolesent, juvinile rants that you have been posting not only on this but other message boards as well. Remember 2 weeks ago? “Oh we got this wraped up! They ain’t even going to come close!” Here we are now and all of a sudden you light up the message boards and short of spitting on people (Imagine that!) your throwing everything and maybe that sink at HQ as well at everyone. I wonder why? My associates have said there is some uniform sadness going on around your immeadiate vicinity and you are confirming that many, many times over and that’s what it is, over. Tell me alexis, have you finished shreading everything up down there yet? Do you remember your little feud with a certain former County Engineer? What did you do at a certain county office when the reappointment time came? Let me see you let go of a couple of relatives of his didn’t you? One could not get a job with any I mean ANY Republican office holder any where because you have a GOD complex. She acctually had to go to a democrat to get a job. Let’s see wasn’t there another one who had 29 ½ THAT’S TWENTY NINE AND ONE HALF YEARS at a county office, six months to go till that person’s retirement and you said “Bye, bye!” I would say that justice was rightly served when the Secretary of State booted you out the door. Oh, and the two meniacle maniacs that did not get reapointed at that county office? Wasn’t one a former boyfriend who was the direct supervisor of his Mummy who has a phleme problem? You are a disgrace not only to our county party but to The Republican Party nation wide.
Oh pardon me for being a noisy malcontent but I savor the upcomming meeting. Word has it you are backing off the secret ballot already, my guess is it’s that GOD complex again. Oh and if you are so great as a chair why did you not run for PC in your home Precinct? Afraid of losing? Now I am hearing your going to try to get into a certain PC meeting even though your not a PC, trying to manage your own doom? Folks, don’t put anything past this guy we need him gone now.

My case in point. You are either in a severe denial state or are in bad need of help. Please refer to this if anyone is wondering who is in bed with the democrats. http://alexarshinkoffdemocrat.blogspot.com/

Close prediction on the Clinton win Mr K

  25. AkronRight April 25th, 2008 at 9:16 am

There is no way Wayne Jones, Roetzel and Coughlin are going to allow Laria to beat Pry. If Alex loses, look for Jones and Company to cut Laria off at the knees. Roetzel has too much money to lose.

  26. Phantom Master April 25th, 2008 at 6:33 pm

Ben if you have already heard the deal that alexis was letting the democrats win County Executive and County Prosecutor. alexis will still get to keep county Engineer, and Sheriff (big deal) and everyone else was on their own as far as fundraising help, etc. I even heard of a meeting one time when GWB was running for re-election and kim arnold from one source wanted everyone to practically stop their campaigns and help GWB's. How stupid! It is a wonder we won what we did. But anyway he already had a deal in the making AGAIN and if he really wanted jim laria to win County Executive they would have started over a year ago. Not when it looks like he might loose chair all of a sudden laria at the last minute gets his petitions filled out. He is already getting ready for his defeat and to make it look like it is Coughlins fault. How? Read the previous blog entry. Also where's the Summit county Republican Parties monies? Being funneled into alexises campaign one way or the other. Look if this guy was so confident in winning as chair again why is he even bothering with these lit-mailings? If he was Sooo far ahead in polling we would see a whole lot more civil campaign, wouldn't we? Another thing did you see his propolsol of regulations? Any number for a quorum, removal from your COMMITTEE SEAT for any reason by a 2/3rds vote of "His Quorum" What could that be? 6 people show up and 4 get rid of you? Wait a minute, I thought that I was voted in buy the Republicans in my precinct but he's going to get an "Honorary Committee seat" and he's going to get chair back?
