White House 2008 Update

  • Author: Ben Keeler

Two stories for you, one from each side of the aisle.

Al Gore claimed he traveled to Texas with former FEMA director James DeWitt to visit wildfires in 1996 during a debate in 2000 against George W. Bush. Found out later to not be true. John Kerry lying about Cambodia at Christmas in 1968 during the 2004 campaign, which he had to later come clean about and say wasn't true. Now in 2008 Hillary has been caught in an outright lie about her trip to Bosnia while she was First Lady. In support of her claim that eight years as First Lady qualify her as a foreign policy expert, which obviously it does not, she has talked about landing in Bosnia under sniper fire and having to run for cover. It is not true. Or a lie. However you want to phrase it is fine. Adding humor to the story is the fact that "comedian" Sinbad was on the trip and he says her story is false.

I am not surprised by this at all. Democrats are now forced to see the reality that Republicans have known for years - the Clintons are habitual liars. Actually, they knew it, but now they have to confront it. The only thing remotely surprising in the story to me is that this was broken by CBS News, the network of fake documents designed to torpedo Republican candidates (though it has been on YouTube for a few days). The Clinton campaign says that Mrs. Clinton "misspoke." Of course. Don't accuse me of only going after Obama now.

On the Republican side, The New York Times reminded us Monday that John McCain almost left the party twice. Unfortunately, as Republicans, we know this all too well. Stories conflict about who initiated what, but there is little doubt that defection crossed his mind at some point. Once the Democrats have their nominee and what not, this is just a little preview of what we will be seeing. For the Democrats sake, hopefully they do a better job attacking McCain then they do setting up their primary calender.

This guy is now the face of the GOP. Pretty stunning when you sit back and think about it. But in my estimation, the NYT reeks of fear of McCain……and they will do anything they can do avoid a 6th loss in the last 8 presidential elections for their party. Yes, their party.

Big news for Democrats today. Obama girl has released a new video. Enjoy.

Re: Clinton lies…I am shocked — SHOCKED — to find gambling going on in this establishment… What? A Democrat padding their resume? Well, they sure do enjoy breaking new ground don't they?

Re: McCain the Donkephant…Well, this is what happens when we let the 527 media and Democrats like Kos pick our nominee…but the good news is that while they were jazzed about having "fun" crossing over and picking our standard bearer in New England and elsewhere, they totally forgot about the Great Uncivil War brewing in their backyard.

Re: ObamaGirl…she couldn't even be bothered to vote in her primary…what does anybody care what she thinks about politics? Honestly, I suspect that she represents the politics of hype…I mean hope…Obama is going to have to HOPE these people show at the polls when it counts or he's just as done as Hillary already is…

Bush lied about being in the National Guard and got away with it, so I guess some lies can be overcome.

  3. The Reverend March 25th, 2008 at 11:05 am

I must, simply must, correct Ben's errors first.

    This….

"CBS News, the network of fake documents designed to torpedo Republican candidates"

…though a popular Republican myth…..is not true. Those national Guard documents were NEVER proven to be counterfeits. Look all you want to…..you will not find any evidence that those papers had been falsified. No experts concluded they were false.

    This…

"This guy is now the face of the GOP. Pretty stunning when you sit back and think about it. But in my estimation, the NYT reeks of fear of McCain.."

…kind of implies( and Matt fills in the blanks) that somehow, Republicans didn't pick McCain to be their nominee. I don't quite understand this. Somehow, the New York Times and the Democrats picked McCain. Please clear this up for me. I know you don't want me to remain confused.

Further….tell me what happened immediately after the McCain fearing NY Times ran their Vicki Iseman story. Correct me if I'm mistaken….but didn't Rush and the usual suspects rally in support of McCain immediately after the Times' Iseman story came out? Didn't that firm up conservative support for the Straight Talker? And don't you think the Times people knew that would happen when they printed a suggestive story without any direct evidence of a tryst?

"Their party". The New York Times, despite their cheerleading, misleadingly, for war….through Judith Miller and others…..has their own political party and it's the Democratic Party….according to Ben. A newspaper that supported the extremist neo-conservatives in a war of choice, complete with fraudulent "reporting", a newspaper that sat on Bush's illegal spying story for one full year while Jr. was being re-elected, a newspaper just recently doing all it could to help galvanize conservative support for McCain….is, despite those telling examples,…a newspaper claiming the Democratic party as "their party".

Why would a Democratic newspaper print stuff like I just mentioned?

  4. The Reverend March 25th, 2008 at 11:18 am

Kyle: No question the young woman is promoting her assets. That, of course, is the reason media will play her stuff. T&A always works.

Having said that….it is creatively done and better than her first attempts to display her assets.

And having said that….and you realize I'm quite the contrarian…..I really believe this Obama girl stuff is used by main media because it fits their template. The aforementioned T&A is the first precondition….the second is to plant the white girl/black man taboo in the minds of viewers, thus, attempting to damage Obama's chances.

I can't tell if the young woman has that much sophistication politically, I don't think so….she's simply a shapely opportunist…..but main media is that sophisticated. And as you can see from the looped 24/7 Wright comments, main media WOULD stoop to those levels.

I simply can not believe that there are Democrats out there who still cling to this absurd FAKED documents…even SeeBS had to go with the "fake but accurate" line…the key word there, dude, is FAKE.

And President Bush did indeed serve in the National Guard, so I'm not real sure what Chuck's problem is…seems to me like Chuck and The Rev ought to get their stories straight before they go off speaking "truthiness" to power or whatever it is they are calling it these days…

Having said that, I will agree with The Rev on the Obama Girl stuff…

  6. Matt Hurley March 25th, 2008 at 11:30 am

"Why would a Democratic newspaper print stuff like I just mentioned?"

Because they are desperate and have lost touch with the American people and are left with throwing anything and everything at the wall to see what sticks.

That is why I find the Great Uncivil War to be so entertaining in the first place. Finally, we're seeing liberals talk about the Clintons the same was Rush has for YEARS… And the most hilarious thing is that Democrats are finally starting to realize that identity politics is dangerous because you wind up with an empty suit like Obama as your standard bearer…

I'd stick around and explain some more, but I have my own site to run…

  7. Joe M March 25th, 2008 at 12:47 pm

Yes, who cares. Who is the new chairman???

  8. Ford MS March 25th, 2008 at 1:52 pm

Even though I voted for Hill in the Mississippi primary(open primary), to hear that she misspoke was no shock. Your right Ben, the Clintons are habitual liars. That's the Clinton way. Find yourself in a tight spot…just lie about it. When you are called on it…lie some more. That was the 90s Clinton way, and the press would always help them out and move on to another subject. I don't think the Clintons are enjoying this new atmosphere they are encountering in 08.

  9. Ben Keeler March 25th, 2008 at 3:30 pm

    Good point, Ford.

Now that Obama is the friend of the media and not the Clintons, it is a position they have not been in for some time. Before they could just say whatever and get away with it. That isnt the case now.

  10. John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt March 25th, 2008 at 6:39 pm

Of course McCain considered crossing over! Why would he have any loyalty to the Republican party after the smear job he suffered in the 2000 primaries?

  11. angry conserv March 26th, 2008 at 10:29 pm

To me the issue is not if Hillary exagerated big time. She wouldnt be a professionl politican if she didnt spin, evade and exagerate. The real issue us why did CBS say nothing about her lies Their people were on the plane and had the film to prove her tale was BS. To me the reason is obvious but my liberal friends tell me except for Fox what is/is not reported is the news without bias.
Hey Reverend a space ship hovered over my house last night and beamed up to the mother ship. Prove it didnt happen

  12. The Reverend March 27th, 2008 at 2:29 pm

Well Angry….I certainly can't prove you're not from another planet.

    Matt:

"And President Bush did indeed serve in the National Guard, so I'm not real sure what Chuck's problem is…seems to me like Chuck and The Rev ought to get their stories straight before they go off speaking "truthiness" to power or whatever it is they are calling it these days…"

Did I miss where the documents were proven to be counterfeit? Did I miss the evidence that Bush really did show up in Alabama? If so, resupply the evidence for my consideration. If I'm being truthi, I need to know about it. I'm sure Chuck would enjoy perusing that evidence as well.

    And this…

"Because they are desperate and have lost touch with the American people and are left with throwing anything and everything at the wall to see what sticks."

…is why the NY Times helped lead us into a war of choice, kept Bush's lawlessness a secret, and tried to solidify the conservatives around McCain?

The Times, the liberal Times, did all that because they were/are in a state of desperation, recklessly flinging out any stories that might take hold?

I think my answer that the Times was pandering to the powerful is more credible. But I've been wrong before.
