Obama's Ohio Mailers "Misleading"

  • Author: Ben Keeler
  • Date: Feb 25,2008

I know this might be hard to believe for some of you, but it looks like a recent mailer in Ohio sent out by the Obama Campaign was determined to be untrue and/or misleading by FactCheck.org. This story was first reported on by Ohio Daily Blog, Pho and The Daily Bellwether. The mailer claims that Hillary said NAFTA would be a "boon" to the economy way back when. Problem is, she never said that, and was actually accused in the early 1990s by some of not being supportive enough of her husband and NAFTA. Anyways, Obama backed an expansion of NAFTA into Peru - and I vaguely remember him saying something about China in the context of NAFTA in their 7th million debate the other night. It appears to me that one of his few attempts at substance doesn't add up. He is trying to hit her hard on NAFTA because that is an issue that would have some punch in a state like ours which has been hit hard on the manufacturing job front.

This revelation must be a shock to some Obama followers. I guess "change" does not include honesty in campaign literature. But he is still such a good speaker!

A second mailer concerning health care is also in question. On this issue, I don't see the big deal because both of their plans are terrible; it is like arguing if you would rather die by fire or drowning. You can go to the FactCheck link, I am not going to rehash the facts of their release. In one sense or another with a couple of differences, both Obama and Clinton want government run health care for America. They are probably fooling gullible Americans into thinking that this means their health care will be "free." It would be "free" if you consider a payroll tax increase or some other tax hike "free" to you. For the record, I am not against it being mandatory for all Americans to have health care - I actually think it is a good idea. I just don't think it should have to be run by our federal government. I wrote a post on this in March 2007 and even called it my "Barack Obama Health Care Plan." Trust me, I get as mad as anyone when I see my first paycheck every month and my health insurance I never use is taken out of it. But people should be responsible and have it……and it should resemble the free market for everything else in this country. The last thing we need is more paperwork and more bureaucracy in the system - which will be the result of either Democrat plan. In a free market, the most efficient companies will win over consumers, they will reap the benefits, the consumer gets better care, prices are driven down, and everyone wins. Well, everyone except Hillary and Barack.

With so much on the line in Ohio in 8 days, there are going to be some more fireworks. And fainting. I am officially setting the over/under for faintings this week at Obama Ohio rallies at 4.

Why have another debate if all they are going to do is restate the things they have said earlier. I am sure we all have our questions that have been ignored
How about just one—-how do you plan to address the growing red ink in our unsustainable entitilement program(taxing the rich and corporations have already been used for your other programs) ? Well maybe 2. What is your view of the Radical Islamic movement and if you view it as a threat, what are your proposals. Please say more than work with other nations to help eliminate the misunderstandings between people.

Obama has gotten a free ride with very little criticism from the corporate media.
I do not want a preacher for president. He has been slickly marketed like a soft drink.
Step up Ohio and don't drink the Kool-Aid.

A lot more than four people would be fainting awhen hearing Obama speak if they only realized the cost of his feel-good proposals.

Look it s clear that mailers were correct, it is true that Clinton was for NAFTA before being against it now. If we all want to be fair here the Clinton campaings did more negatives attacts to Obama than he did them.

    What Obama thinks of Americans

    http://www.ucc.org/news/significant-speeches/a-politics-of-conscience.html

"It seems to me that each day, thousands of Americans are going about their lives – dropping the kids off at school, driving to work, shopping at the mall, trying to stay on their diets, trying to kick a cigarette habit – and they're coming to the realization that something is missing. They're deciding that their work, their possessions, their diversions, their sheer busyness, is not enough.

They want a sense of purpose, a narrative arc to their lives. They're looking to relieve a chronic loneliness. And so they need an assurance that somebody out there cares about them, is listening to them – that they are not just destined to travel down that long road toward nothingness."
